I LOVE to read and do so whenever i can find a moment alone. I also enjoy cross-stitching, movies, music, playing pool, baking, shopping, and writing to my penpals in England, the Netherlands & Australia. I am a very liberal/open minded person, which can get me into some debates from... more »

  • Black-Capped Chickadee (Wild Bird Guides)
    • Rated 5 stars

This is a great book for any chickadee lover (like me). The pictures are amazing, and there is so much info about this cute little bird. I would have bought it for the pictures alone :)

  • A Modern Girl's Guide to Bible Study
    • Rated 4 stars

This was a helpful book, with many good ideas on studying and journaling. The only downside is she babbles a lot at certain points, and most of her journal entry examples have multiple passage quotes in them.... which made me feel like you had to have a substantial knowledge in the word prior to journaling so that you could back up your entry with multiple additional passages from throughout the bible. I felt that she was a bit arrogant in doing this, kind of like she was trying to show off how well versed she is. I do look forward to trying out most of the strategies outlined in this book though... I'm not sure yet as to wether I will read the rest of her books.

  • Have a New Kid by Friday
    • Rated 2 stars

I was disappointed with this book. It got such good reviews and seemed promising. I found that this was written more for the families who have kids over 5. We live in the country, and don't have many activities to use in the steps.... so this book quickly became irrelevant for us... at least until my kids get older. The rest is basic common sense, nothing new on the parenting front at all. Definetly not a keeper.

  • Dewey
    • Rated 4 stars

I really enjoyed this book. Dewey was an amazing Cat by the storiy told. The reason I only gave it 4 stars was that I found The author spent too much time telling her own life story. I thought this book was supposed to be about Dewey, not her own personal tragedies. Aside from those parts, I found that this was an amazing book. I wish my cats woul act like Dewey did.

I really enjoyed these stories! I would love to see some of them made into series'. The stories are lots of fun, though too short... as usual in the world of anthologies. Th eonly one that i didn't enjoy was "Answers". This was a very good read.

  • Mean Streets
    • Rated 4 stars

This was a great anthology! I bought it for the simon r green (nightside) novella, which didn't disappoint, and couldn't stop reading. Each story is from different stand-alone series'.... but were all enjoyable, and i didn't feel that i needed to read the whole series' to get into the novellas. I liked how having only 4 stories in the anthology, as opposed to 8 or so, allowed the authors to not to feel rushed.... so it didn't leave me with the " good stories, but far too short" feeling that i get after reading most anthologies.

So if you're a Nightside, Dresden, Greywalker or Remy Chandler fan..... this is an awesome book to pick-up!

  • Unusual Suspects
    • Rated 4 stars

It looks like i'm the first to write a positive review of this book...

I was skeptical upon buying this book because i did not like Powers of detection (the previous anthology). I bought this book mostly for the stories by Simon r green and charlaine harris..... but i found that i enjoyed pretty much all the rest too, it turns out that the sookie story was my least fave of them all! Green's story was pretty good, as usual. And i really enjoyed Sharon shinn's "house of seven spirits", and Dana stebnow's "a woman's work".

This book has given me a couple authors whose other novels i'm gona look into. The only downside was (as with all anthologies) the stories were a bit too short :)

  • Word Freak: Heartbreak, Triumph, Genius, and Obsession in the World of Competitive ScrabblePlayers
    • Rated 4 stars

This book delvs into the world of scrabble, from its history to the scores of people who play it. The author embarks on his own journey in the competitive scrabble world, while following a group of its best players. For the scrabble player, this book contains some good tips and strategies. This book is to the scrabble world, what "trekkies" (movie) was to the star trek world. Although if you aren't interested in scrabble at all, this might not be an interesting read for you.

  • My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands
    • Rated 3 stars

I have to admit, the first 3 pages of this book made me laugh so hard i cried! Ms. Handler writes about her vast experience with one night stands with comical, yet brutal, honesty. From her near fling with a "little person" to her uptight and naive roomate she calls "dumb dumb". Sometimes she's bang on funny, other scenes leave you shaking your head at how stupid people can be. It did have some slow parts, and some of the nights aren't as funny as others. But all things considered it's a fun read, good for that in between phase of book reading.
