mollymorris

I grew up in a family of readers. We always took books on vacation, and now quiet times include books. I'm usually reading several at a time, and have a lengthy reserve list at the library.
I'm always open to suggestions, or if someone wants an opinion of something I've got on my shelf. :-) more »

This gives a good idea of what goes on behind the scenes at restaurants - you can really gain an understanding of what makes a chef, a restaurant owner....and someone who is in the business tick. It's certainly not pretty....and it's not a life for everyone.

Probably one of the best, no-nonsense books for learning about wine I've read - and I've been reading quite a few! This is a good book for the studious wine-drinker rather than the person who is going to relax and have a drink or two a week and want a passing knowledge. I've been using it as a training manual at the wine shop/bistro that I'm managing. If you don't consider yourself quite the "student" of wine, there are other books that are great, and might be a little more entertaining and/or colorful. (Some of Oz Clarke's come to mind.)

We've all seen Wegman's dogs once they're full-grown - they've graced posters, coffee mugs, etc. But this is a chance to experience these dogs when they're still unsteady and learning how to live in front of that famous lens.

  • Gospel: A Novel

A book in the "Da Vinci Code" style before Dan Brown wrote his novel...globe-trotting intrigue in search of a lost gospel. No real art history involved in this novel, though. I read this many years ago, but still go back to it time and again - hoping that someone, someday will find a screenplay in it.

poignant story....I loved seeing the lists of songs on the mix tapes that he describes, and I was making mix tapes for a boy at the same time - while I about 30 minutes down route 29 from the author. Same time period, same geographical area. This story was close to my heart.

Amazing insight into the way the mind works....anyone with family or friends suffering from depression or bipolar disorder, or even a passing interest in psychology should read this and learn from it. It's surprising what you can learn about some of the most creative people in history.....

  • The Minimalist Cooks at Home: Recipes That Give You More Flavor from Fewer Ingredients in Less Time
    • Rated 5 stars

The recipes that I have made from this cookbook have been very easy to follow - any possible substitutions are given (and any reasons why you'd want to substitute or add anything extra) and the food has been delicious.
Favorites are the Pasta in Red Wine Sauce and the Chicken Curry.

I read this as I was finishing my paralegal certificate program - I figured it would give me a glimpse of the worst possible lawyer I could work for....time will tell.....
