This book is hard to read--things just keep getting worse for these two, but it's worth it in the end. If anything, it makes you appreciate hard work.

Amazing book. Can't wait to read the sequel.

Pretty good summer read. Not as good as Vince and Joy; still it's got a pretty interesting, if somewhat predictable, plot. Bring it to the beach.

Lots of fun. Nice mix of biographical info and insider anecdotes from the music world.

Perfect depiction of the modern workplace before and after it all came crashing down.

Mixed feelings. Had a hard time getting through this one. For instance, what was the narrator's real role in this book?

Absolutely love this book. Once I got through the first chapter, it really became absorbing. The mother character was a blast--so perfectly drawn, this woman who wants her kids to be perfect when they're so not! Chip grew on me after awhile. Absolutely loved Denise. I could have a read a whole book devoted to Denise or Gary's family life. Just a really excellent depiction of the modern 'effed up family. I've read a lot of comments about people hating the characters and not wanting to read a book filled with people they don't like. I just don't get that--did everyone grow up with perfect families? Franzen's character's were just so real to me--they make horrible mistakes, do stupid things, and just keep trudging along. Just like lots of people I know in real life--myself included!

Brillant book. Funny. Sad. Fantastic. A really interesting look at life and death.

Loved this book! Very enjoyable, fun read. Despite it's comic book cover, it's not that at all. Taking place over 17 years, it's all about your first love, and how no one else can really compare. Lot of quirky characters. Takes place in London.
