“This book was a delightful departure from the classic 'mythic' journey of most novels. There are the requiste elements: a boy, animals, water, a boat, a journey. And yet, there are ways it runs counter to what we know to be true. Can animals talk? Can people survive out on the water without contact with others? What is real? What is fiction? The ending is a little bit sci-fci or postmodern but the creativity was worth it. Reminded me a little of CASTAWAY. A guy on an island for three hours? Really? Really!”
