Thanks, I will pass on it for now. If it is ok, I would like to borrow your Matthew Henson book again to read this month (January 2010). Happy New Year!

What did you think of Unaccustomed Earth? Should I take time to read it?

I finished Earth Democracy and will pass on to Mona; I didn't think it was the easiest read. Also, I saw Betty H. a couple days ago. She suggested The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kathleen Jacobs as a happy book. Have you read that? Maybe I'll suggest it for October.

I did what you said and read the discussion questions and decided to read it. It was ok, I enjoyed it more once I realized the story was about the events leading up to the Wedding night and not only the Wedding night itself.

I didn't finish Chesil Beach. I read about 20 or 30 pages on vacation and couldn't read anymore. I found it depressing. Should I give it another chance?

Hi, how goes it? Is your Broads book group still going strong? It sounded like such a fun group when you told us about it at our lunch last summer.

The Minneapolis-St.Paul-Minnesota Group recently hit 100 members, so we're kicking off a 100-Member Celebration! Details are available on the group site. Hint: It involves a drawing for some gift certificates, and participation is required in order to be eligible for the drawing :-) Come celebrate with us!

Also, we've announced that our summer group read will be Leif Enger's newest book: So Brave, Young and Handsome. I'm reading this book right now and will have the discussion thread up by next week. The thread will be available for discussion this entire summer.

You will love Stones from the River...also Eat, Pray, Love. We read the later last year in our club. We just finished Three Cups of Tea. I was rather bored with it. We read Peace Like a River...FAB book...we all loved it. I have Edgar Sawtelle...started it but then put it down. Didn't grab my interest from the git go, but didn't give it much of a chance. Will give it another try after 3 Day Road...haunting is a GREAT word to describe the book. Will finish it tonight. We are reading Crossing to Safety by Wallace Stegner for next month. How do the Broads select your books? Do you have a methodology? We need something desperately. We have a rather forceful woman in the group and if I'm not there to help balance her, we end up with some weird suggestions. We need a methodology that everyone can agree on. I am open to suggestions! Pups are good...one is aged, but his quality of life isn't compromised yet, so we're hanging in there. It's a gorgeous evening...off to walk the pups. Good to hear from you. Miss the dialogue.

Hey, Gal...been a while since we've 'chatted'. How goes the Broads? WRFW is a bit stuck at the moment...I've not been able to attend the club meetings the last 2 months (1 month was dog related: tumor removal) and the just this month I had the pleasure of having not 1 but 2 emergency root canals within 48 hours! THIS girl knows how to party! I've determined that my absence has created this impasse (no ego here!), and wanted to get your thoughts on a book that was selected: The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay
by Michael Chabon. That sucker is over 600 pages...ONE BIG FAT book! You or the Broads have any thoughts? I've read a few reviews here on Shelfari and on Amazon...overall positive...BUT 600 pages?!!!! EEEEEKKKK!
Am currently reading Three Day Road...almost done...depressing but mesmerizing...odd combo. How are you doing?

After a long hiatus of communication with my friends b/c of work constraints I am trying to revisit shelves and re-connect. I did remember how many books we had in common, actually many more than the flag indicates. I hate that they don't match up different editions. Nevertheless, I hope all is well with you and that you're reading good books. I noted several from your shelves that I haven't read and looked interesting.

Yikes!! Leave to life to interfere with memory. Do you still need a playpen? We do have two.... Let me know! I wonder if I could drop it off on a day when I work at TF? Again, let me know. I hope all is well! :-)

    mnnorthwoodsgal!

I was so disappointed to find that the trip was full when I decided to sign up. (That's what I get for bragging before I do. . .LOL!)They keep the participants small (12) for good reasons. The trip is sponsored by my local rec department and they do it every year. I plan to sign up well in advance next time.

Instead, I went cross country skiing! I can't tell you how long I have wanted to and put it off for one reason or the other. My brother is a real adventurer. He has a jet ski, a kayak and he got cross country skis for Xmas. So I followed my "little" brother into the frozen tundra and. . .It! Was! FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!

    I'm hooked!

It was excellent to see you, too! Remind me to check on the play pen sooner than later...I'll do my best to get it to you soon!

Hmmm...Sula is a hard one to lay to rest. I felt like I could have discussed the book more. It was fairly complex in terms of layers--there was so much to the story. I always take something away from our discussions though which is part of what makes the book club so fun! Thanks again for the invite to Broads in the first place!
