I read to satisfy something between intellectual necessity and guilty literary pleasure. whatever that means. This usually results in my shelf being a mixture of crap I read instead of watching tv, like a regular 21st century person, and actual literature.

Yes, read Howard's End, and read it slowly so you notice all the things the author says that don't seem to flow naturally out of the story itself. These digressions carry the message, which is hopeful and wise.

Welcome to 1001 books. You can keep track of the books you have read from the book, 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die here and join in the discussions on the books we are reading for the month (from the book) or you can argue the merits of the list as some enjoy doing. We hope you will want to join in our discussions. The current books are at the top of the list for that month. If there is any way I can answer your questions about the group or about Shelfari, let me know.
If you don’t own the book the list can be found http://www.listology.com/content_show.cfm?content_id=22845

hmm. that's what everyone wants - to remain anonymous. or to show as little of themselves as possible! :)
when i joined this place i was quite fascinated by the book - adding, reviewing, etc. now i just feel tired of the interface which i dont like very much. i think it's more glitzy than efficient. or more cool than capable. true, finding people with similar tastes and books has been fun.
i've been on semi-working vacation myself. for over a month. haven't been reading much at all. in fact, photography has taken up most of my mojo for many months now. reading/writing/guitar all have suffered.
i enjoy reading Palahniuk becomes he tries to be so shocking every time. and quite funny too, most often. i wish i could've lent you my books heh :)
and i wish you'd put a pic that showed yr face :P

:) so how is it going? i've hardly been on shelfari to be honest. i find that networking is the only thing that keeps these portals alive, not the books. and this is not very high on networking. so i dont know what to do, most of the time :)
what have you been reading? i like the nailpaint in the picture

true. recently, howevever, burroughs has started appearing in indian bookstores - harper perennial editions. new editions of the naked lunch, basically. so maybe you can order yourself one and it might come in a few days/weeks. interestingly, here there are places where you can pick up old books from flea market type places. so many of my books come from there.
so what do you do, E?

it's always comforting when a burroughs book appears upfront on someone's shelf :)

I see you have read manyof the same books as me. My world is small as I thought as was the one with such high and low tastes at the smae time (hence Jane Austen books and chick lit--gossip Girl)
