This was a nice change of pace from the usual detective/suspense story. Instead of a detective, we have Myron Bolitar, a sports agent. Granted, he *used* to be a Fed, and he has a law degree, but he’s not a cop, nonetheless. I liked Myron, though his friend Win is a little…. weird. But an interesting character.

The mystery itself was interesting, and I really didn’t have it figured out by the end. I like that! I also like the dry humor. A series I will continue with!

I’m not entirely sure why I can’t stop reading Laurell K. Hamilton’s books, but they’re like cake frosting… I always want more, but it’s so very, very bad for me. For example, I’m completely underwhelmed by this book, yet I just added the two she will be releasing this year to my wish list.

The best thing I can say about this book is that there’s some resolution at the end (which is more than I could say about the two prior). The rest of it is pretty much sex and faerie politics. Really, this series is just thinly veiled erotica, yet I CAN’T STOP READING IT.

This was the best Patterson book I’ve read in a while. The story was interesting and suspenseful and flowed well (which is something missing from some other Patterson books I’ve read recently). I really enjoyed this.

However, I listened to the audiobook, which I have to admit heightened my amusement. It had background music! And sound effects! When the “bow-chicka-bow-wow”-like music started during a love scene, I almost drove off the road.

I’ve never read a Dark-Hunter book before, so I wasn’t sure when I picked it up if I would be lost or not. I wasn’t too lost! The politics of it all is a little confusing and I’m still not sure I grasp it all, but the characters were great and the story was interesting. There were references to a few things in the past, but I’m not convinced they were actually covered in another book. Overall, I really enjoyed this, and will likely look for others by Kenyon.

This is one of those books that I knew about by reputation but had never read myself. Or at least, I thought I hadn’t read it. My name is written in it with the date 8/12/93, underneath the names of my mother and 3 aunts and dates in late 1980. However, I don’t remember reading it at all!

Anyway, it wasn’t disappointing. I like how the secrets are alluded to and revealed bit by bit, and the final revelations are powerful. I’ll at least read the next book in the series.

I’ve always had a special place in my heart for Agatha Christie, despite not actually reading many of her books. In fact, I don’t think I’ve read one since elementary school. There’s just something about her stories that are classic. I listened to this one, and it was more a radio play than a straight reading, which just made it even more sweet and quaint somehow. There’s a very Scooby-Doo like explanation of the events at the end, but it works.

I’m enjoying this series. This book was a little more violent than the first, and I was surprised at some of the characters that were affected. I’m not sure I get all of Murphy’s reactions to Dresden, but it all kind of works out in the end.

An excellent book in an excellent (so far) series. Child really knows how to grab your attention from the start and keep it throughout the whole book. The conspiracy theories were even believable as conspiracy theories. I actually think this one was better than his first, Killing Floor.

I didn’t care for this book. I barely skimmed the last 80 pages.

The basic premise of the book is that these art crime detectives believe someone is trying to steal and/or destroy the Shroud of Turin after a string of strange happenings at the Cathedral where it is occasionally displayed. There’s 3 groups of people here… a group that are trying to protect the Shroud, a group trying to “reclaim” it, and the art crime detectives.

It was very slow, and really not very interesting. She tries to generate some interest in the history of the Shroud with flashbacks to the time of Jesus and then of the Templar Knights, but it still isn’t a particularly interesting history. And the time changes were very abrupt.

This book is touted as an “international best-seller”, but if that’s the case it was for solely one reason: The Da Vinci Code.

The only good thing about this book is that I can now return it to the library.

How can I not like this? It combines two of my favorite things… historical fiction and a murder mystery! It’s set in Victorian-era England, and I think all the intricacies of social life at that time are well portrayed. It must have been so stressful living at that time and always worrying if you’re doing and saying the right things! It seemed to me that the worst thing one could do was be “impertinent”.

I’m not sure how I feel about Anne Perry’s somewhat sordid past, but I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading/listening to the others in the series.
