As I entered my second year of University, I finally discovered the joy of good books, and realised that branching out further than the latest bestsellers may hold a few surprises.
During Christmas 2009, I was pointed in the direction of the BBC s The Big Read, the nation s favourite 100 books as found by a survey in 2003.
Consequently, I started directing my reading towards reaching 50. Thus avoiding having to actually go out and buy any! Student living :)
Almost exactly a year later I reached my goal and have consequently rediscovered the joy of reading that was lost between the ages of 16-18 for me, and cannot wait to explore all those books out there that weren t on the list but are still amazing reads. The oldest 50 on my Shelf are those I read as part of the list, and anything more recent has been read since.
On my 21st birthday I was given the book "1001 books to read before you die". My aim of 500 (while alternately reading modern fiction) may prove quite a different challenge! « less
