Well, for what it is worth, Wolfe is some sort of Christian (though Severian the torturer of course was not). He did a second series in the same fictional universe: Book of the Long Sun, which had a priest protagonist who got drawn away from the gods to the One True God._Litany of the Long Sun_ is a paperback containing the first two books.
I have His Majesty's Dragon, but haven't read it yet. Did you ever continue with Gene Wolfe? I assume you read Shadow of the Torturer when I did.
What, no new scifi to tell me about? :)
