1 of 15 children. Write SF/Fantasy. Old as the hills. Native American = I was born here. I prefer to use their real names -- Navajo, Iroquois, Snoqualmi, Hopi, Apache, etc.--when I want to designate one of the People, Life is a puzzle, and I've lost half the pieces. If anyone finds them, wash them thoroughly before returning... more »

This is the book that started me reading Spider Robinson. It has an intellectualism to it that you don't normally see in science fiction short stories. If you read no more books in your life, make sure you'e read this one and the Callahan series.

This is an excellent book on three counts. First it has a fantastic premiss, amazing writing, and fantastic characters. Second it is a collection of short stories that have the cohesiveness of a novel. I think robinson can do that better than anyone else. Third, it is just one of a series of books set at Callahan"s. Robinson didn't make a jewel just once, he did it over and over and over...!

Not everyone will get something out of this book. It is multi-level and intense. The vocabulary is around college level. But. If you can get into it and understand the vocabulary and underlying allegory, you'll have a life changing experience.

Here's a colossal waste of time! Despite Donaldson's pretty prose, he can't manage to pull the Thomas Covenant series out of the gutter. If I had to hear the protagonist whine one more time about the (curable) disease he shows no signs of having, I'd kill myself. The action was ok, the story slow and the main character irritating.

The legend goes that the original title of this piece was "Get of the Unicorn." Meaning children of the unicorn. Unfortunately, the editors, publishers, type setters, et. al. couldn't manage to remember to refer to it correctly. Anne finally capitulated and ran with the majority misconception.

The book is one of her first works and is a collection of short stories. It contains a delightful montage of ideas; each lovingly executed. The title work is my favorite and the line about "it'll only calm down for that frigid bitch in accounting" has me rolling on the floor every time!

An astounding book! Here is an alternate genesis; here is evolution along an entirely different path. Kudos, Hogan!!

Yeah. Now, see, this is the reason why I don't read Stephen King. After I finished the Stand, I was unable to function in normal society for nearly a month.

The man doesn't just write. He opens up a direct line into the most primitive part of my brain and force feeds terror into it!

Is this really a book for a Fantasy book shelf? Don't get me wrong! It's a terrific book, but it is definitely not fantasy, it is science fiction.
