This is by far, the best book in the trilogy.

It's unfortunate that what Sachs defines as poor are those who are in Africa. There are other people who are poor who are not in Africa. They may not be as poor as those in Africa but they are poor (social security-wise, entitlements-wise) nonetheless.

Reading the book added little new information to what I already know. Foreign aid is still seen as the messiah of impoverished Africa.

I think that the book is economics junk food (just as Grisham novels are legal junk food). The novel plays around the ideas of incentives and regression analysis. It's a fun read and one need not to have any background in economics to understand the text. The book is filled with factoids - useless ones at that.

This is a unique mystery novel due to its setting (the Philippines) and protagonists (Jesuits). I was excited when I first heard about the book. The novel is well-written but I didn't like the ending. After finishing the novel, I felt as if I'm short-changed by the author because it lacked a good twist in the end.

This is a very moving book that teaches a lot of life lessons. Morrie reminds me of an old teacher I had in high school. It's worth reading several times over, just like an annual read. It celebrates both life and death.
