I'm a developement engineer with Shelfari.

I like to think I read from a broad range of genres, but that may or may not be true. more »

I like your book choices :) I've seen a lot of books that I plan to read and of course, you've rated Calvin&Hobbes 5 stars, that says everything lol.

Thanks, I checked the shelf I had several that were unintentionally stared. I fixed'm good. I'm currently reading, "Strength in What Remains," Kidder's second book. This one is a huge, stand-out. I did not agree with all the accolades heaped on "Mountains Beyond Mountains." After reading just a third of this excellent genocide survival story I'm kinda questioning where my head was with his first book... maybe I was just having a bad week. Once a book gets on the wrong side of me, it's a goner. Anyway pick up Strength, it's an unbelievably well told personal memoir.

    Have a great day.

Snow Falling on Cedars was excellent, move it up to the top of your stack. Have fun with, "Guns Germs..." A true epic. I hope you love it, tell me what you think. By the way the followup book, Collapse was a disappointment. The fault might be in the subject matter and not in his writing. Guns was about nation building. Collapse was a series of tragic ruined nations.

Hi, I'm fairly new to Shelfari. I Am really enjoying it so far. I notice from your list of book we seem to share an interest in the classics. Like you I am interested in many different kinds of books but I do particularly enjoy the classics. I want to join a group, but honestly, I'm a little shy. I know that must sound silly! Any suggestions on how to get started? Thanks

I thought there might be some question that I had an unfair advantage since I can edit on the job via QA. I wanted to make sure I was the clear winner. {;o)

I would hate losing to a machine too...

Well, sorry, but I really, really, really detested Everything Is Illuminated. Guess I'm just too old-fashioned. I'm sure if I were Jewish I would have found the Nazi invasion part more compelling, but even then, I don't think I would have been able to stomach all the perversion. Yes, he's a brilliant writer, but I can't abide some of his subject matter, no matter how much of a genius he is. Ick.

Oh you'll love it. Fforde is fab. How goes it at Shelfari after the whirlwind seduction and marriage to Amazon? Not at all a hostile takeover, I take it; more of an oh-thank-you-God sort of thing?

Well, I suppose that's better than being one of the more invisible members, right? I would send my condolences (and congratulations) on the breakup, but there are just no words. The propensity of half the population to pick the wrong spouse certainly does make lawyers wealthier, and everybody else poorer, but even this is better than being stuck with a bloodsucking fiend for life. Teenaged girls can swoon over Twilight only because they haven't lived through the aftermath. As Joyce said, "Let the dead bury the dead. Ay. And let the dead marry the dead." Looked up Foer and he looks interesting. I may give him a whirl between Brits.
