I'm a developement engineer with Shelfari.

I like to think I read from a broad range of genres, but that may or may not be true. more »

Hi, I'm fairly new to Shelfari. I Am really enjoying it so far. I notice from your list of book we seem to share an interest in the classics. Like you I am interested in many different kinds of books but I do particularly enjoy the classics. I want to join a group, but honestly, I'm a little shy. I know that must sound silly! Any suggestions on how to get started? Thanks

I thought there might be some question that I had an unfair advantage since I can edit on the job via QA. I wanted to make sure I was the clear winner. {;o)

I would hate losing to a machine too...

Well, sorry, but I really, really, really detested Everything Is Illuminated. Guess I'm just too old-fashioned. I'm sure if I were Jewish I would have found the Nazi invasion part more compelling, but even then, I don't think I would have been able to stomach all the perversion. Yes, he's a brilliant writer, but I can't abide some of his subject matter, no matter how much of a genius he is. Ick.

Oh you'll love it. Fforde is fab. How goes it at Shelfari after the whirlwind seduction and marriage to Amazon? Not at all a hostile takeover, I take it; more of an oh-thank-you-God sort of thing?

Try the Eyre Affair, by Jasper Fforde, which will get you into the Thursday Next series.

Well, I suppose that's better than being one of the more invisible members, right? I would send my condolences (and congratulations) on the breakup, but there are just no words. The propensity of half the population to pick the wrong spouse certainly does make lawyers wealthier, and everybody else poorer, but even this is better than being stuck with a bloodsucking fiend for life. Teenaged girls can swoon over Twilight only because they haven't lived through the aftermath. As Joyce said, "Let the dead bury the dead. Ay. And let the dead marry the dead." Looked up Foer and he looks interesting. I may give him a whirl between Brits.

Welcome to Costco. I love you. Actually I love the site. I've sent an invite to most of the folk on my e-mail address list and those who responded, have responded very positively. The clientèle is building, man!

My sense of humor has always tilted a bit towards the absurd/morbid. So many books! I keep finding myself at Elliot Bay Bookstore...Bad Amanda! :) I saw "Stiff" on my friend feed and was so amused I had to add it.

I hope you will take the time to view my YouTube book trailer at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-t0K34iU6g. I am doing some research about potential characters to play the lead role in the upcoming movie. Hope you can help me out. As Ralph Eggleston Director/Production Designer of Pixar Animation Studios said,
"I LOVED the book! It's a missing, ENDLESSLY fascinating link to the history of Hollywood. Thank you for researching and writing it!! I hope it's been widely well recieved, as it deserves to be." Best wishes. Gaelyn

Perchance in your Reading Challenge post, you forgot to identify which book you were choosing. Otherwise, the post is not to topic and should be a separate discussion. As a Shelfari employee, thee should know better! For such an eggregious error, I shall to have sentenced thee to 50 lashings with a wet noodle! Thee may choose who shall do the flogging. I expect a full report. Dash For Cover
