It is safe to say I am obsessed with books. I tend to buy them faster than I can read them. My dream is to have an entire room devoted to a library. I work in television, which offers me ample time between shows to read. Besides books, I love movies, fashion, and have just taken up knitting.

    Hi SporkFashion--Hope you're doing well! There was a little issue in the Atheism Group and I was wondering if there was someone you'd like to have help out as a co-admin? Thanks! Amanda

    Hello M. Spork:

    How did you like the No-Wave Book? I have to buy it, if only for the picture of Dave’s Luncheonette on Canal and Broadway which gives me kalloo kallay frabjious joy. I remember the sad day the Feds shut them down for non-payment of taxes and a beautiful piece of NYC history was lost forever. There hasn’t been an egg cream that good since. That was around March or April of 1983, two and a half blocks from the Mudd Club.

    I was fortunate enough to grab a pair of tickets for the reunion show of Teenage Jesus and the Jerks that was used to kick off the book. It was strange and dreamy. All of the surviving folks of the scene seemed to be there and, for a single night, it felt like I had slipped back into the early 80's and it was beautiful. I brought a younger friend. At one point, she was behaving oddly next to me and when I looked into her face as she made some kind of gestures about the extremely tall man next to her, I thought he was molesting her in some way. Then I thought, Thurston Moore is not goosing Susie. Then I understood.

    Moore took bass for the Jerks. On the other side of me nearby was a super blond Kim Gordon and friends. The Jerks were (of course) late. Lydia Lunch came out last and immediately the crowd started to spew invective at her. She fought back in boredom, a nasty line back for everything. The music was ripping and glorious. Lydia continued to braise the crowd with her own brand of verbal violence, but there was nothing to answer back she hadn’t heard before. I thought we were failing. She looked great, a little stouter, but fierce and lovely at 49, her long mane black and shiny. I found my thread. After another song ground roughly to an end, she began to upbraid New York and scream how she lived in Barcelona now and utterly wretched she was to be back here. She told us to all commit impossible act and then shrieked, “You New Yorkers should die. You should all go die.” I shrieked back, “Who dies your hair.”

    Lydia boiled over for real for the first time of the evening. I may have been on the balcony in the Knitting Factory above her (about 400 capacity), but the look on her face told us that she considered it a good possibility that she would be able to launch straight into me to tear out my hair and eyes. James Chance felt that one in the gut too and he raced into the chords of the next song before she had a chance to truly unhinge. My friend Susie was agog next to me and I peeked over to see Kim glaring 1970's Bowery sewer rat poison at me. I laughed my donkey off. The truth is that Lydia only has about five years on me, even if I only started to get my grays and they are great at hiding. But standing next to Susie, I look more her age. And it was the right thing to do. The music and Lydia only got more fierce and beautiful.

    I hope you are having a lovely holiday season yourself, M. Spork, and that your new year is kalloo kallay.

    This message had to be edited for a banned word (you can probably guess which one and certainly not such a bad one). Funny that we can say all the things we can read here, but we cannot actually quote so many of them.

    a joke;
    A woman was complaining to the neighbour that her husband always came home late, no matter how she tried to stop him. "Take my advice," said the neighbour, "and do what I did. Once my husband came home at three o'clock in the morning, and from my bed I called out: "Is that you, Jim?" And that cured him. "Cured him !" asked the woman, "but how?" The neighbour said, " You see, his name is Bill ."

    Hi There....

    my beautiful and lovely obsessed with books and movies and fashion, who have just taken up knitting. Hey, but you didn't say, whether you liked music or not.
    So, hows about it, let me know your secret, do ya, like music that is. As for your love for fashion, it is oh so obvious, in your dress....Always down to your

    glasses. They scream with fashion, and all the names of the designers most can't pronounce. But nah, just stopping by, because we have been friends for a while, and yet we have not communicated much....Please, can we do something about that? You're too beautiful, and blessed with such a great

    mind for us not to check out what's under our hoods, called heads?

    JASS!

    I am author of book " Afghanistan A Volatile Country" which will help u in knowing about a tribal society. i am afghan by heritage. My forefathers migrated to Pakistan from afghanistan. I am working as a lecturer in a university in Islamabad which is capital city of Pakistan. In 1980s i remained in touch with the afghan resistance against Soviet occupation of afghanistan. This is a country which is never being ruled by any foreign force. British also failed to break their defense line. Pakistan hosted millions of afghan refugees. I am an insider and not like those journalists who come and stay for some days and go back and write book with specific picture in their mind and they do not know what is happening in the streets and what pain a common man is going through. I also discussed women issues in this country. The book is available from amazon.com

    I hope you will take the time to view my YouTube book trailer at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-t0K34iU6g. I am doing some research about potential characters to play the lead role in the upcoming movie. Hope you can help me out. As Ralph Eggleston Director/Production Designer of Pixar Animation Studios said,
    "I LOVED the book! It's a missing, ENDLESSLY fascinating link to the history of Hollywood. Thank you for researching and writing it!! I hope it's been widely well received, as it deserves to be." Best wishes. Gaelyn
