I teach writing—primarily short fiction and novels—at Boston University and Grub Street. My first novel, The Quickening, will be released in June 2010 (available at Amazon, Indiebound, RandomHouse, etc.). It's the story of two Iowa farm matriarchs, closest neighbors and friends, trying to survive the Great Depression until one betrays the... more »

Hi, Michelle. I'm an author. I've been behind in my Shelfari entries because I've been changing my five books over to Kindle. It took much longer than I intended. My latest book, Bears in the Hibiscus, I published just recently (Mary thinks the last person she wants to see on her Hawaiian vacation is her ex-brother-in-law, a Montana Park Ranger...). It's a humorous romance, and my second in that genre--they make me laugh.
Your book sounds interesting. Keep in touch so I don't forget it. I'm going to try to be more active on this site in between everything else I'm doing. Right now, I have a stack of books to read as most of my friends are writers!

    Dear Michelle,

I can't wait to see your website. I've been out of commission these past two weeks, shortening my new novel, "Yearbook," which my agent felt was too long. It's now being sent out to editors. I'm slowly reemerging into the world!

    Warmly,

    M.

Hi Michelle, Just went to your site and it looks great! I cannot wait to read your book, I will be pre- ordering it this week. I wanted to ask you if you are working with an agent? I am looking to sign on with one for the book I am currently working on right now. I have the first two Eternity books out there but due to the fact I did not have an agency representing me I am not sure how well known they will get. I wondered if you could recommend one or some advice on obtaining one? Thanks in advance and take care.

    Hi Michelle,
It is a very long time since I visited this site, but having received your friend request, I updated my entry. The photograph of myself was taken during my long illness and swollen with medication! The photograph here is how I look now!
Good luck with your first novel. Teaching too, much in common.
Have a couple of blogs and a website, if you'd like to pop by, and shall look for yours. http://caroleannecarr.co.uk
    Kind Regards, Carole.

Stressed in Scottsdale is on Shelfari with my other books. Most of the reviews are posted on Amazon.
So impressed you teach writing! My parents went through the Depression in NY and they had stories too. I've incorporated some into my historical novel based on my grandmother's life, Paper Children--An Immigrant's Legacy.
