About Michelle Stone:
I've worked as an electrical engineer in Silicon Valley for 20 years as a programmer and project manager. I spent three years as a marketing manager for a pharmaceutical company producing medical instrumentation. I have an insatiable sense of curiosity and always had an adventurous spirit regarding the exploration of space. As an avid amateur astronomer, I started a business designing and building large portable telescopes. I currently manage a non-profit private astronomical observatory. My engineering background and eager interest in space exploration naturally have led me to write. I live near Yosemite National Park and participate actively in the Mariposa Symphony Orchestra.
I've enjoyed science fiction since I was a child. While I certainly enjoy the work of well-known and self-published authors, I've come to miss the adventure in the development of science fiction technologies. I enjoy a story best when there's something novel or new... something that bends my mind. I like to learn something of science, history, human nature, or see radically compelling concepts from everything I read. I'm a big fan of space opera, don't get me wrong. However, I crave more. That was part of the inspiration that pushed me to start the Dimensional Shift series.
I'd been mulling the technologies over in my mind for years before I ever turned to the keyboard. I am a fan of music, history, and science. I enjoy taking events from history and real science with a slight twist to craft a credible story. One of my goals was to produce new technologies in my novels. You will find no tired science fiction instruments like wormholes, ray guns, warp speed, and the like to develop my storyline. I use common terms from the sciences. I also attempt to clarify in two or three levels of explanation for those unacquainted with the terminology. I understand that not everyone will be familiar with biology or how a telescope works. Additionally, I've also written these volumes knowing that some of the technology development is not that important to many readers. I've therefore made a concerted attempt to write these works so that even those who glaze over those sections still have a fulfilling story to read. Finally, I've made a strenuous attempt to keep the books rooted in the sciences. I'd really like a teenager to pick up one of my novels and learn something from it. As a result, the violence and intimacy in my stories lack the visceral nature we've come to expect in our entertainment. Yes, there are some military expletives, but they've been toned down considerably and are certainly nothing worse than what you'd see on television.
I enjoy feedback from my readers. I enjoy getting good ideas and science fiction concepts from friends and others. Send them to me! My email address is available at the end of each of my books.
