Hello, my name is Melissa and I am ADDICTED TO READING!!! Reading to me is sort of like eating and breathing... I MUST DO IT!
I enjoy reading novels - i.e.: womens fiction, historical fiction, action/adventure, romance, paranormal romance, etc. I also like to read "classic literature" and surprisingly find I fall in love with most of them. Lately I noticed I love poetry too! I especially enjoy reading novels that me think beyond my "box"; it's a plus if they make me laugh, and very moving personally if they make me cry.
My favorite books are the ones with strong, resourceful women as the main characters; and I do prefer to read novels written by women authors. I guess I find it easier to relate to those novels written by women.
I especially like books with tones of mystique and magical realism. I believe life is a much more mysterious and magical place than we like to believe and I enjoy books with those subtle undertones of the un-mundane part of life. I also really like historical fiction; I love how they transport me to another time when life was different.
I think literature is such an important part of life and society. Everyone can learn something from a book: a feeling they never knew they had inside themselves, thoughts and ideas you'd never pondered, an interest in places and people you've never even thought about before. They can even transport you back to a memory you had long forgotten. There is nothing like reading, and using your imagination; I am trying to impart that to my son as much as I can.
Words are powerful and they can affect us in ways we never even imagined! Every time I finish a book I am reminded of that.
