An intoxicating read! Bella makes the move from sunny Arizona to gloomy Washington state, only to attract the attention of the most gorgeous...and dangerous...group of students in her highschool. Romance, danger and Bella's curiosity drive this story forward and leave you thirsty for the next in the series.

Bartimaeus, an ancient demon, is summoned by an inexperienced magician to contribute to a plan of revenge that will have dire consequences for everyone involved. The story is set in London and features pompous magicians, feuding demons, and the common (and clueless) general population. I loved Bartimaeus's dry humor, and the nervous musings of young Nathanial. There's plenty of action to keep all readers involved, but students able to pick up on the humor and excellent writing will really enjoy this...I'd like to read the other books in the trilogy!

  • An Abundance of Katherines
    • Rated 5 stars

Colin will never be a prodigy, and K-19 (the 19th Katherine he's dated) has just cut him loose. His best friend Hassan gets him on the road and the two find themselves befriended and employed in Gutshot, Tennessee. Colin begins work on his theorem explaining and predicting the dumper/dumpee relationship...between Colin's dumpee woes, Hassan's sense of humor, a pig hunt and a girl named Lindsey Lee, this book keeps you laughing, and is emotionally resonant.

  • New Moon
    • Rated 4 stars

Where "Twilight" ends in unlikely romance, "New Moon" begins in too-familiar heartbreak. Bella passes the months after losing Edward in a daze, until her friend Jacob Black reenters her life. Bella finds herself aligned with mystical enemies of her true love's family, on a vampire hit-list due to circumstances from the first book, and still debating the merits of mortality. A satisfying sequel and appetite-whetting prequel to "Eclipse."

  • The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish
    • Rated 4 stars

Just a little bit of unlikelihood goes a long way. Dad is too preoccupied with his newspaper to notice that his son has swapped him for two goldfish. His sister and mother insist that he swap him back, but of course it's never that simple. The illustrations are amazing; shadowy and surprising-I think lots of ages would appreciate hearing this read aloud.

Humans seem to think that everything can be separated with walls. It's not so simple when the fantastical fair comes to town and a man meets an intoxicatingly beautiful woman from the other side. The child they produce grows up in the human realm but returns to the faerie realm when promising to retrieve a fallen star for the girl of his dreams. This old-fashioned fairy tale with touches of contemporary humor is sure to satisfy any fantasy itch.

  • Madeleine L'Engle Walking on Water Reflections on Faith and Art
    • Rated 5 stars

This is a book to come back to every few years as your life and perspectives change. I found out today that Madeline L'Engle has died, at 88 years of age. Since reading this book I wanted to write her a letter and tell her that a book she wrote the year I was born had such an impact on me 25-28 years later.
