    “What a ride! I didn't put this down until the last page was turned, and I haven't stopped telling people about it since. Marcus, a 17-year old hacker & highschool student, is in the majorly WRONG place at the wrong time, when a terrorist attack on San Francisco leads to him being detained by the Department of Homeland Security. The book is set in the not-too-distant future, when technology and surveillance are even more pervasive in the US. This techy thriller with social commentary bite will keep you guessing.     “I really enjoyed the characters in this graphic novel; they were spunky and funny in all the right places...lots of good kung-fu action from Arsenal Hopeless-Savage, and some truly classic grandmothers. I'd like to read the first two in the series, but it was easy enough to catch up with the Hopeless-Savage family in volume 3.”

  • What Happened to Cass McBride?

    “This book isn't really the "smart, scary tale that moves like a bullet train" that James Patterson claims on the cover, but it was a decent suspense/CSI-ish story. It's not overly complex, but I don't think it's meant to be. There are some themes of bullying and name calling that could be discussed w/ a small group; but overall, it's a book meant for entertainment.”

    “I totally enjoyed my second dose of Potter-though I think in the end Harry will end up being one of my least favorite characters. Why does he insist on ignoring and doubting Dumbledore? Aside from Harry's mumblings, I really enjoy the world of Potter and am looking forward to book 3...”

    “Vampires came to North America with the Mayflower and now rule the elite and wealthy in New York City. Children of these "blue bloods" go to a private school and the truth of their lineage is revealed to them only when they begin to experience telltale flashbacks and physical symptoms of their transformation...usually around 15 or 16. A solid vampire tale, fashion show, historical and contemporary mystery and present-day myth...definitely enjoyable.”

    “I agree with other reviews that say Funke's writing is slow for the subject matter in this story. She's a thorough storyteller, and the characters and setting will stay vivid in my memory, which is not the norm for my rapid-reading style. I'll recommend this to students who have the patience to stay w/ the story and more of an interest in the developments of character than the rigor of plot. One last thing...I'm bummed that Brendon Frasier is cast as the father in the upcoming film. The father in the book was fabulous, and Frasier is nowhere near what I was imagining.”

    “I brought books 1 & 2 in this series home to read one evening, so I'd know what the kids at school were so psyched about. If I had brought home all 5, I would have read them straight through. The Grace kids are great characters, the fantasy is top-notch, and I can't wait to read them all.”

  • Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist

    “If you can get past the F word being used every other second, you'll love this fast-paced, funny, young love story. The entire novel takes place in 24 hours or so. Nick's voice alternates with Norah's (Levithan & Cohn), so we get the entire story in stereo, he-said she-said style. The story is authentically angst-ridden and self conscious, and a very satisfying read.”
