    Good Afternioon Medhaj A,

You have given me a sketch of the outline of your novel, but without reading an excerpt, such as one or two chapters, it would be difficult for me to give you sound advice. Your plot; an organization of teen-aged boys (and girls?) fighting crime in their community is great. Have you read any of the "HARDY BOYs" or "NANCY DREW MYSTERIES" novels? They are great, I remember reading them as a boy myself.

    My E-mail address is: mphelps@MichaelPhelpsNovels.com
Send me a few pages as an "attachment" to an E-mail, and I can give you an opinion.

Now, I can tell you as a Writer; I write quickly, then I go back and read what I have written and make revisions, corrections, changes. It takes months for me to get my manuscript to a point that I can read the entire manuscript and feel satisfied, and good about what I have written. In my situation, I write about True Crimes, ones that I worked on as a police officer or as Chief Investigator for a criminal defense law firm. That is good for me, because I have the PL:OT, and I have the Beginning - the Middle - and the End. Flashbacks in a novel must be crafted carefullt, so the reader knows it is a flashback, and who is invoilved.

I believe, just from reading your messages to me, that you and your friend are very intelligent, talented and capable. I have written one book ("DAVID JANSSEN-MY FUGITIVE", a Biography of an American Television and Movie star. I wrote the book with his first wife, Ellie Janssen. It was a very difficult project. I vowed to myself I will NEVER write a book (or novel) with anyone again. So, I applaude you for embarking oin this project with a friend.

You have not told me, are you a boy or girl? I believe you are around 12 years old, that is amazing that you enjoy reading and WRITING! Don't give up! I presume you live in India, if so, what part of your country? Do your parents encourage you in reading and Writing?

    Enjoy your vacation!

    Regards, your friend,
    Michael Phelps

    Hi Medhaj A,

Have not heard from you in about two months. I hope you are writing C.A.C.
It sounds to me this book has a lot of potential, and I hope you are seriously pursuing it.

    Medhaj,

Now that I know you are 12 years old, I would suggest you wait until you're about six years older to read my novel.

    Hi Medhaj A,
Nice to hear fromm you. I am very impressed with your book proposal! It is a very solid start! The idea of two orphan boys, escaping from what is most probably an overcrowded and abusive orphanage, and finding work in a restaurant, and then seing crimes committed, and deciding to help the police capture the criminals is great.

First, you tell me that you are 12 years old. So, the first thing you and your friend will need to become a Published Author, is your parents CONSENT. Moving on, you will need an Editor (that is someone who reads your Manuscript, corrects spelling and grammer, and makes suggestions for the story line and time line, and a few other minor details). Now, possibly your Dad or Mom can help by being your Editor. You also need to copyright your work so no one else can use (steal) it. In the beginning, just write "copyright by Your names, 2009"
It sounds to me like you and your friend could have the debut of a series of novels, with the same protagonists (the two friends who are the main characters). I think it would be a very entertaining book for kids between the ages of say nine and 15, even 16.
What country and city are you located in? I ask that becaue you will have to keep in mind that the United States has Child Labor Laws, so a young person under the age of 16 could not get a job in a restaurant, even a McDonald's.
Why don't you post, say the first five pages here on Shelfari so I and others can read it.
Keep me informed, and Good Luck with your writing. It sounds really neat.

Hey, it sounds like you are on the right page! That sounds LIKE A GREAT STORY FOR A BOOK, and later on it sounds like a very COOL MOVIE! So, you guys are on the right path.

All I can tell you is get notes from people, places, and things. Go talk to the police department, let them know about your book and see if you can ask them some question (make sure you already have them if they agree). Talk to Michael Phelps, who is just below my two emails to you. He would have much insight to justice and battle!

Keep your eyes open on TV shows, News, and everything else about the law. I think just from reading your email, you guys will have no problem fisihing this book. Your minds are on this story...

Hello Medhaj A, how far are you into wrting your book? What type of book is it?

The reason I ask you this is because I need to know how much you have put into it, your outline (if your using one of them), notes, subjects, and writing.

The best way to go is to get a lot of information for your book. Start your outline and form the book from that. Each part of the outline can talk about what your book is going to be about (Introduction to the story, story, and then the conclusion). The book "MY MIRACLE by Rodney Barnes" has a really good outlined.

I hope that was good information for you. If not, email me.
    Good luck!

My Publisher, Blue Line Publishing House received a message asking if YOU should read my novel, The Execution of Justice.

OF COURSE, YOU SHOULD! If you like detective novesl, this one is based on the murder of my close friend and one-time mentor, a Detective Sergeant in the Robbery-Homicide division of the Indianapolis Police Department.
The novel introduces "Detective Mike Walsh", and is the first in a series of novels, all based on actual cases. Cops - Robbers - Murder -Mayhem, it has it all.
