“One of the great guilty pleasures of my life is reading vintage, particularly vintage western, Lowell. They're popcorn by this point and I can slam through a book in an hour to an hour and a half but they wipe out stress and guarantee a few smiles in between. I think this is my dozenth reading of this book, easily.”

Lullabies for Little Criminals: A Novel (P.S.)

“Positives: the author really captures the sense of being twelve and thirteen. From the near-psychotic changes of mood and attention span to the need, still, for parents and structure and love. Wonderfully details mid-80's rendering of Montreal's seedier side.

Negatives: Oh my god depressing. The uplifting ending that both the back cover and the reviews I've read allude to is not quite so clear cut, and really, I spent most of the book wanting to pick the character up and take her home with me. Probably the most depressing book I've read all year. This little girl can just not catch a break, and her life really really sucks.”
