I'm a school library/media specialist. Though still new at the elementary level I'm getting up to speed. I suspect, as do others, that more good books are written for children than for adults, so I am enjoying the project immensely. I will be picking your Shelfari shelves! Time is short! I want to find & read & share really good books .

I have just finished book #14, only 1 more to go. What ethnic group does you school mainly consist of? Mine is Aftrican American and I think they are going to love Brendan Buckley Universe. I personally loved Defience and Night of the Howling Dogs. My fifth grade is going to teach Night of the Howling Dogs in reading while science is doing the earth sciences (volcanoes, earthquakes, tornadoes, etc.) Then in Oct, they are teaching Me and the Pumpkin Queen. They are also using Punishment to teach a few writing skills.

Belay my last! I see that you added "God in the Equation." A great read, to be sure! I enjoyed Powell's point of view far more than Strobel's (A Case for Faith). Enjoy!

Brief History was excellent! Much like Einstein---and most people don't believe me about this---Hawking writes in a voice that speaks to the common man and the intellectual alike. I didn't like the cone imagery, felt that it didn't quite describe things right, but then again I have the brain of an ant compared to the author. I've disagreed with Einstein before (in Ideas and Opinions, though not very often) and he was right, of course, in most every case. =-)

To be honest, I'm about due for a re-read of Brief History. Let me do that one over and I'll give you some more specific comments.

    Thanks for the friendship!

P.S. Out of curiosity, which book did you add to your list?

Thanks! I've done the same with your shelf. I teach 8th grade language arts. I am constantly trying to find new books to hook reluctant readers. I used to be a Literacy Specialist, but missed the classroom. I look forward to seeing what you add to your shelf.

Yes, I'm certain I'll enjoy The Living. I grew up in Tacoma and think Annie Dillard one of the great American writers.
I don't know about antique children's books. As with any collectible one has to find the right buyer.

I was looking at photos of Vancouver, Canada, thinking about vacationing there next year and found this link to beautiful libraries. Enjoy! http://www.miragebookmark.ch/most-interesting-libraries.htm

Hi - I saw your profile because of an Annie Dillard book review. My cousin owns one of the two independent children's book stores left in California. I thought you might enjoy looking at their web page: http://lindentree.booksense.com/NASApp/store/IndexJsp
Linda is a fantastic resource for the best in new (and old) children's books.
