I love talking to people about books and movies and music. My aunt always used to greet us with a hug and the question "What are you reading?" I love that question! So finding friends and new books to read on Shelfari has become a favorite thing to do.
Other favorites, in no order at all: My family, Zoe and Noah, the dogs- Jep and Chance,...more »

    Morning Friend,
Hope your well and relaxing this summer.

I must check out The Skeleton Feast. Maybe from the library. Sounds like a very different book.
I am almost done with Beneath the Marble Sky. I have really enjoyed it. Great read.

Tell me about Across the Universe? It is a story or
    non-fiction? A 5 star I want to see it!!

Will be on the plane to Vegas on Sunday. Wish me luck....hope I win millions....

Oh, I am having fun in the class - we women laugh at ourselves. We're so
accomplished in many areas, but not in this class.
Love E. Berg, I will have to pick your book up at library. Have a marvelous time
    on your vacation. Ciao, Carol

    Mary,
I forgot to tell you I signed up for a watercolor class this summer. What I have realized is I am awful...it is a beginners class but still. So my dear, I do not have a speck of your talent. Only damn thing I'm good at is designing & decorating my home.... Hugs, Carol

    Morning Mary,
I sure hope Shelfari keeps up with the emails on notes from friends otherwise a lot of people will miss messages!
Hope you and your family are well. Sounds like NC is calling your name! Have a wonderful restful trip. Take lots of pictures and laugh alot...
My grandchildren just finished school friday. Gina(my daughter) has enrolled them into a summer camp but it will not start for another week. Guess who has the children this week........ Not sure if I will get anything accomplished with these 2 gremlins!
Reading is so rewarding. It keeps me balanced and calm when I
need that rest. There has only been a few times in my life when
I was not able to read and I have never forgotten it. I hope it never happens again. And with you also.
The book I'm reading right now is "Earth Abides". Very interesting and enjoyable. Will keep you updated.
Keep in touch. I always love hearing from you, Carol

Hi Mary: I stink at this shelfari thing. I just now saw that you sent us New Year wishes and also a note when Kosovo declared independence. I used to get an e-mail when someone wrote on my shelfari page, but apparently that doesn't happen anymore. Anyway, thanks for the well wishes both times! Independence was definitely exciting. I hope you are doing well. I imagine that the kids have wrapped up their school year by now. Madison was desperate to visit Zoe this summer, but ticket prices are so high these days. We're hoping to make a trip around Christmas if the prices drop in the fall. Give our greetings to your family.

I'm originally from North Carolina--about 2 hours southeast of Raleigh. I attended UNC Chapel Hill and graduated Duke. I know (knew) the Research Triangle Area pretty well. I've been gone sin 1982. I presently live in Northern California, across the bridge from San Franciscio, CA.

I hope we can be friends.

Oh Mary, I forgot to mention "Miss Potter". Loved that sweet movie. A seller on ebay was selling 2 new Miss Potter's. I bought them. I will put one away for Christmas for a friend. Also, did you see the Jane Austen Book Club? Loved that one too.

    Hi Mary,
It was so nice getting a message from you. I've missed you too. Been so caught up in life, I am falling behind in my emails....

I just purchased on ebay 12 Maeve Binchy books for $12.00. What a great buy! While at the bookstore,I picked up one for $9.99 and was going to buy it, then decided to check ebay first. Glad I did! Not that I needed more books, but when I want something, (especially books) I can't wait. Have to have it NOW! Sick huh? Along with the 12 new ones, I must have 500 books on my shelf in my bedroom to be read...........
I have not read Nineteen Minutes yet. I believe my daughter has it and I'll try and read it this summer. I read My Sisters Keeper and that stayed with me a long time. Again, disturbing.

I also am spring cleaning and decorating. Bought a new rug for under the coffee table.(looks great) Hubby is painting a wall burgundy that I know I will love. (colors in my home are burgundy, cream, black, brown, dark green and gold) It is so soothing and fresh. (The homes in Florida are wide open with lots of light and greenery.)

What are you working on now? I just finished "The Friday Night Knitting Club" and I enjoyed it.
Wish I knew how to knit. My ex-mother in law taught me crochet but not knitting. Want to come teach me??

Have a great time with Carol which I have no doubt you will. Nothing like having a treasured friend. If we lived closer, I know we would be best friends.
    Warm Hugs, Carol
    P.S. Let's keep in touch!

Good Morning! Thanks for your note. The book that I read that reminded me of Jodi Picoult is called "Pieces of My Sister's Life" by Elizabeth Joy Arnold. It's really good, with an ending I didn't quite expect. Let me know what you think! Unfortunately, I don't quilt. My mother does and she got me started reading the Elm Creek Quilters. I can appreciate the beauty and wonder of quilts, and I love the stories they tell. I'm also a lover of movies - have you seen anything good recently?
