  • The Tale of Despereaux
    • Rated 5 stars

The Protagonist is a very small and curious Mouse named Despereaux. The setting is mostly the kingdom of Dor in the Dungeon and the Castle. When Despereaux is born with big ears, very small, and with his eyes open the family worries. When he gets older his brothers and sisters try to teach him how to be a mouse, but finds himself reading about a fairy tale and finds himself loving the Princess , the only one who actually likes him. And it is in that love that Despereaux breaks the most sacred mouse law; never reveal yourself to a human. So, he is sent to the Dungeon to be eaten by the rats, but is the only mouse to ever live. It is there that we meet Churouscuro, an unusual rat who likes the light. He wanted to see light and went to a royal banquet, where he was spotted by the Princess Pea and fell into the Queen's soup where she died. The King, outraged, outlawed rats and any mention or making of soup (the Queen's favorite dish). So it was in this event that Roscuro sought revenge for what the Princess did. So we meet Migery Sow who is a Maid who dreams of being a princess, proves to be helpful in Ruscuro's revenge. Despereaux will have to stop them before it's to late, before his beloved fair maiden suffers a horrible consequence, Death. The theme is that with faith and bravery there are no limits.
I rated this a five stars because I really liked the book. It was very interesting. There were lots of visuals so I had a better visual of the story. I also liked the way the Author talked to the reader, like he was telling us a story that he was told/experanced. I would recommend this book to everyone. It is a good book that has a very good message.

The protagonist is 17-year old Ronnie. Ronnie lives in New York and lives with her mom Kim and her 11-year old brother, Jonah. Kim and her father, Steve, are divorced. Have you ever not wanted to go somewhere? Well this is what happens to Ronnie. Ronnie's dad lives in California with his house on the beach and Ronnie has to spend the summer with him. One thing you should know is that Ronnie has not seen or talked to her dad since 8th grade. When Ronnie arrives she is mad at her mom for making her come here and at her dad for not being with her the past years, well actually he came to visit but she always avoided him. She meets a girl name Blaze and meets Teddy, Lance, and her boyfriend Marcus, marcus creeps her out. So with her friend she meets Will, well sort of, he ran into her (literally) and she soon finds herself falling for him. The Antagonist is Marcus or death. Ronnie is basically trying to fit in to this new place. The theme is "make the best of your summer and it will make the best of you, too.

Ever since he found out that his dad was sold by someone in Texas, ha has been determined to find him. They then find a way to Texas by joining a cattle drive that is taking 3,000 steer to the Sioux Indians. An event that makes this hard is: the death of friends, the constant rivalry between the Sioux and the Pawnee, and Buffalo stampedes. The theme is, "Don't judge someone by the color of their skin, but rather by their hard work". Will prometheus find his father? Or will they keep doing the herding forever? Read to find out.
I rated this book a four stars for a couple of reasons. First, it was very cool to see all of what they did. And the characters kept doing things to make me want to read more. I just wish there was a bit more action. This is a book I know a lot of people would like.

  • All the Lovely Bad Ones
    • Rated 5 stars

When Travis and his sister Corey came to visit their Grandmother's quiet Vermont inn, things start to get spooky. Corey and her sister Travis are nothing but trouble. They are both visiting there Grandmother's quiet Vermont inn to spend the Summer at while there parents are away. When they find out that the inn used to be haunted they decide to do some research. First of all, there Grandma doesn't believe in ghosts and she likes to think of everything as reality. About 70 years ago the owners bought the inn which there Grandma soon bought from them and fix's it up. But before the first owners, on that property, there was a poor farm. There all of the poor families went where it was ran buy Miss Duvall and her brother, there lied the horror's of fox Hill. Many people were tortured and murdered by Miss Duvall and her brother. They were given tons of money for the poor farm, but instead of spending the money on the poor farm they spent it on themselves. While they slept in nice soft beds with all kinds of foods, the people on the poor farm slept on hard cold floors in cells and ate stale bread everyday. They had a check book with all of the money spent on the poor farm which had false stuff in there, and they also had a check book that had the money spent on them in it. So when the inspectors came by they would show them the false check book. But one day they were going to go to jail because someone found out about the check book, so Miss Duvall's brother ran away and Miss Duvall, outraged and abandoned, hung herself in a grove of trees. So Travis and Corey are excited about this and Corey dresses up as Miss Duvall and goes out int he night and wondering about and screams like a ghost and then they awaken something that should have stayed asleep, Miss Duvall and all of the lovely bad ones now it is up to them to put back to sleep the ghosts and ghost children that they have awoken. All the lovely bad ones are all the children that died on the poor farm by Miss Duvall, so they team up with Corey and Travis to get rid of Miss Duvall once and for all. Some things that make this hard is the children, they are always spoking all of the guest so they had to calm them down and get them focused (most of them are about ages 5-11). Also it is Miss Duvall herself that makes a huge problem, like one time they had to get to her check book to make proper graves for all of the dead but the check book is in her coffin. And Miss Duvall is doing everything in her power to stop them. So will they get rid of her? Or will she haunt them and the Lovely bad ones forever? Read it to find out.
I gave this book a five star for a couple of different reasons. First, I like scary story books, they give me goosebumps. And it had a lot of action and adventure in it. It always left me thinking ''what's going to happen next?''. I would recommend this book to people who like to read scary/ action and adventure books.

Jason Grace has a problem. He dosen't remember anyhting before waking up on a bus full of kids on a field trip. Apparently he has a girl friend named Piper and his best friend is a guy named Leo. They're students at the Wilderness school for ''bad kids'' as Leo puts it. Piper has a secret. Her father, a famous actor, has been missing for three days, ever since she had that dream of him being in trouble if she doesn't do something by the solstice. Piper doesn't understand her dream or why her boy friend suddenly doesn't remember her. When a freak storm hits during the school trip, unleashing strange creatures like storm spirits and monsters, threatening them that the king shall rise again, things start to go bad. Soon, they are whisked away to a place called camp half-blood and discover that they are demi-gods or children of gods! And that's the least of their problems, Hera the queen of the gods and heaven has been taken captive which could break apart Olympus and end the world as we know it if the king rises. So, Jason, Piper, and Leo set out on a quest to save the world, Hera, and Piper's dad. But even when cyclops and monsters try to stop them, they manage to keep going. And they soon learn that with the help of friends anything is possible.
I rated this a five star because it was action packed, exciting, humorous and had suspense, in the end it leaves you in mystery so you really want the next book so you can see what happens. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes action and humor in this excellent book. Rick Riordan has done it again!
