Matthew, for a few laughs check out: "The Highest Tide" by Jim lynch, "Spanking Shakespeare" by Jake Wizner, "Carter Finally Gets It" by Brent Crawford, 'Swim the Fly" and "Beat the Band" by Don Calame, and for fantasy/adventure at its best: "The Riyria Revelations Series" by Michael J. Sullivan. Enjoy and READ ON...

    Hi:
I hope you are well and enjoying your reading.
I have just published a new book that I think you might find interesting. It is titled "Shared Emptiness," and deals with the turmoil, depression and hope of a family that is victimized by a horrific random act of violence. I hope you'll take a look.
    Have a great weekend.

Matthew, "Tales of the Dying Earth" by Jack Vance is perhaps the quintessential collection of sci/fi fantasy/adventure stories ever written by one of the most revered and awarded authors to write in this genre. The words that come to mind when trying to describe his incredible achievement are: wondrous, magnificent, epic, spellbinding, dazzling, exquisite, inventive, eclectic verbiage, magical, elegant, enthralling, engrossing, imaginative, original, mellifluous pacing, atmospheric backdrops, transformational, fantastical storylines! I read the first story in this collection when i was 11 years old and the others in the ensuing years. Over the years I have read the collection over 20 times, each time reflecting on the joy it brings me and its life changing impact on my reading addiction. Just imagine being able to transform written words from your minds eye into life-like visions and you will then understand the sensual impact of Jack Vance's brilliance! Ironically, because of its unique qualities I have always been protective and therefore reluctant to expose this truly fabulous literary experience to others for fear of diminishing its value to me...a misguided supposition I know, but true never-the-less. So, if you want to take a journey into the unknown and wander through the beautiful worlds as penned by a master scribe then you will want to read this incredible collection of stories and revel in their beatific perfection. Storytelling at its best; a masterpiece...

    Hi Matthew !

I just finished reading your story - "The River's Eye." I very much enjoyed it. It was beautifully written and so vivid I could see myself watching what was happening while I was reading it. How did you come up with the name. I absolutely love it. It also helps that I love rocks. I go to beaches collect them and some go in my garden and some I paint. Anyway you have a talent for writing. Don't stop. Let me know if you write anything else. I 'd love to read more.

    Hey Matthew,

Thanks for the friend request !

So many book so many authors. I believe I have about 200 books on my shelf & have only read about 80. Pus I have others to add to my shelf that I have read. Tad Williams is one of many authors I plan on checking out. I believe it was Tailchasers Song that interested me. Do you recommend I check it out? Have you heard of Erin Hunter? I read her Warrior (Cats) series a few years back & recently read her Series about bears. I really enjoy her animal stories. Nice easy quick reads.

    Howdy, Matt!

Thanks for the friend request. I laughed when I read your reviews of David Eddings' works. I read the whole shebang - the Belgariad, the Mallorean, and the Polgara and Belgarath books - when I was in middle school. Like you, I find his writing a little tedious (I remember that he was overly fond of certain adverbs - a certain character would always have to "slyly" throw a dagger in every battle scene - obnoxious!), however I found Pol and Belgarath the most delightful characters in the series. Although, it always kind of annoyed me how they took the reins with the plot when Garion was supposed to be the main character.

Can't say I've read anything else in your shelf, but I'll check it out. I didn't realize Myst was a book - did it come before or after the games?

    Cheers!
    -Em
