I'm a librarian and a bibliophile, which I guess go together. I get most of my reading recommendations from my mother, but she's always got very good suggestions. My favorite genre is historical fiction, because I love to feel what it was like to live under those circumstances.

I had that thought as well. I was wondering if she changed some names. I was really worried about repercussions to Roshanna if her husband found out she was not a virgin. I also am sad to think that the school is no longer running. Did you read Three Cups of Tea? I enjoyed that one as well.

    Hey,

I see you read Kabul Beauty School. I just finished it last night and LOVED it! I've been telling everyone about it today.

Thanks for joining the Chronological Read of American History. Jump in and introduce yourself to the rest of the group. Also be sure to make suggestions of your own. As a reminder, we will begin discussion of our first book, Founding Brothers, on March 1. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Lots of snow here, record amounts actually. Very white Christmas, so no one went much of anywhere. New Year's was very fun, now I'm just stuck with putting away decorations. I've been thinking about picking up that series, another friend of mine is also reading it. I've officially started on the rest of Twilight, though, so that's my current to-do! Well, and school.

Hi Mary, Thanks for the friending. Judging by the number of Southern novels in your favorites, you might like Donna Tartt's "Secret History." Have you read that before? Hope you're well.

Have you read the Alchemist? It keeps coming up on my lists. Our library system just added downloadable books. I am going to try it for the trip to PA.
I see the casting of Secret Life of Bees here on Shelfari. What great casting!

Hi- I see we like many of the same books- My Sisters Keeper and Lovely Bones being two of my favorites- as well as Mockingbird and Fried Tomatoes. I read Kite Runner but not Thousand Suns- was it as good? I can't imagine so. I also love historical fiction- particularly Irving Stone and Diana Gabaldon (slash fantasy) I am a secondary ed English/language Arts teacher in Northern CA and a lifelong avid reader.

I am looking forward to reading Inkheart. I am almost done with my current book. I only like to read one book at a time.

Very interesting about Eragon. I'd heard pretty lackluster stuff about it. That book seems to have its devoted fans and disappointed readers and few inbetweens...

Oh cool -- I friend requested your momma. I hope she approves it. I took my real picture off of my profile so I hope she realizes who I am. I wanted to send her a private message but it won't let you do that until you are already friends. Would you let her know it's me?

Thanks BABE!!! (Did you get your books? I sent them a while back.)

If you're still looking for the next Artemis Fowl book it's called: "Artemis Fowl:The Arctic Incident" then it's "Artemis Fowl:The Eternity Code", "Artemis Fowl:The Opal Deception", and "Artemis Fowl:The Lost Colony". There's a new one coming out this year. It's called "Artemis Fowl:Time Porodx". Hope this helps!

Yeah, I wondered about that. I felt like I really slogged through Golden Compass. So I should give the 2nd one a try? Ok I'll admit it -- It REALLY picked up near the end. Did Dave get that far?

Hosseini's book-- yeah, I know I need to read Kite Runner and I will. I friggin' LOVED "Splendid Suns" and I knew you would too so I had to tell you about it. By the way, one of my friends gave the last two books in the Pullman series. If I decide not to read the rest, do you want them?

I wanted to call you today but I've been on the phone all bloody day. Will wait until tonight and try you then. LOVE YOU!!!

A Thousand Splendid Suns: I haven't read the Kite Runner yet, but this book blew me away. Get it, read it. I reviewed on my Shelf.

I agree with what you said about Jodi Picoult. I'm starting to find her other things not measuring up to "My Sister's Keeper"

I'm STILL working on the Golden Compass. Is it just me, or does this take a while to pick up?

    Love, Kate

So I'm off to get the Pullman "Dark Materials" series at the library today at your recommendation. What can I say-- a lot of the books that are on my Shelfari now are ones that you told me to read. So far you're on the mark my dear!!!
