    Hi Marie,
I would love to add you as a friend. We have many books in common and some unusual ones, too. I notice you like the church mice books - my British son-in-law is a big fan. Check out my books and see if you would like to be shelfari friends.
    Thanks, Jean L

Marie Lynn, I'm checking in with you to find out how well your arm is healing. I read your blog about how it happened. Mercy! There you were in pain and yet you were worried about your little dog. I'm saying ouch, ouch, ouch to myself, but I think I understand your concern. And the part about you apologizing to those giving you medical attention...well, I love your sense of humor!

When you're able, I hope to see you here at Shelfari and in the Daphne du Maurier group. They are a great bunch.

    All the best,
    Bodrugan

Oh my, Marie Lynn, I am sorry to hear of your broken arm, but I'm full of admiration that you can still type and think coherently - I doubt that I could. I hope you mend as quickly as possible!

Hi Marie Lynn, looks like it's working! Thanks for sending me here. I lived in Lakehurst, NJ for a couple of years in the early 1970s -- due east of Philly on Rt. 70 (IIRC) only a few miles in from the ocean.
Oh, I just realized you have "The House on the Strand" on your favorites list. I had forgotten about that book for years -- but I remember liking it so very much when I first read it. I'll have to find another copy and refresh my memory.

Hi, Marie Lynn. No problem, time has gotten away from me, too.

Time and Again is special. I've read a few of the Poldark books, the first three or four I think; and I was a big fan of both of the Poldark television series. Of Elizabeth Goudge, I read Linnets & Valerians as a child and Green Dolphin Street when I was a teenager. The latter is one of my all-time favorite novels...I really like the style of historical novels that were popular in the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. I'm afraid that most historical novels that have come out in the past, oh, twenty years don't seem as well written or interesting to me. I still like the genre and am always hopeful that a new writer will wow me, but unfortunately few do.

I have been reading quite a lot of nonfiction lately -- biographies, memoirs, and history mostly. For some reason I find them easier to pick up and put down as I need. Following a fictional narrative is becoming increasingly difficult for me unless I've read it before. I get impatient if I think a writer is moving things forward too slowly or is being deliberately opaque (the latter is okay if the book is a mystery). I am apt to be overly critical of details in historical novels written recently, especially if I think the writer is injecting too many of today's sensibilities. Heh! I do a lot of rereading of my old favorites. I can identify with the comfort thing you mentioned.

What about you? What sort of books interest you these days?

Marie Lynn, I hope to talk with you again soon. Thank you for your note.

Wanted to get your thoughts on The Friday Night Knitting Club. I have seen it on the shelves and look at it, but have never picked it up.
Hope your not getting all the snow we just got!

MarieLynn, I keep running across your name because we seem to share quite a number of books. I especially note that The House on the Strand is on your Top 10 list -- mine too! I have two editions of it, but my review only shows up on one of them -- the newer one.

My, your life sounds very busy! If you get a chance, though, I'd love to know more about your favorite books and what you think of others we have in common.

I will formally put in a friendship request that I hope you will accept!

    Best regards,

    Marie,
Thanks! For accepting my invite :) We may very well have crossed paths on PBS as I use that site often.

I think it is wonderful that you have become a grandmother for the first time. I celebrated my 25th Wedding Anniversary in Dec. on the 26th. I'm also a college student and four classes away from my degree in Admin. Justice. Good-Luck to you with your educational endeavors. I hope we can chat soon about some of the books we have in common.
