When I was growing up, my family didn't make a big deal about books. Learning was deemed important but somehow my parents didn't equate that to reading. In the last 20 years I've made up for lost time. In fact, the only thing I won't miss about my son's toddler years is my lack of time to read more. What do I read most? Fast-paced fiction about... more »

I'm very impressed with the way the author wrote this book. The sentences sparkle. Her approach to conveying the way woman can love their work and also deeply love their role as mother -- not by telling this to the reader but rather through showing us by a thousand little examples -- are spot on. I didn't read this sooner because I feared it would glorify workaholism or bad parenting, or simply make fun of us doing our best with a very full life. Not the case. Very very well done.

Fascinating perspective and approach to story telling.

One of my favorite business books is Reengineering Management by James Champy, written over a decade ago but in some ways more relevant now than at the time it was written. If it didn’t have the now out-of-fashion term “reengineering” peppered throughout so liberally, you could believe this was written about today. I guess in some ways it was.

There are only a few books I feel comfortable recommending to anyone, no matter their taste, age, available time, and so on. This is my most recent addition to that list. Although there were two areas where I thought to myself "did she really need to take us down that path" (which I won't mention here because both are spoilers) the sheer joy this book brought to otherwise tired days overcomes anything else.

Not one of my favorites. If some of the talk of Italian food hadn't reminded me of Eat, Pray, Love (the Eat part), I'm not sure I would have continued reading it. Light winter reading at best.

One of those books you can read again and again (and we do!) and I never tire of it. When my son and I pick berries he always now says, "kerplunk".

So far my least favorite of SKL's books, but I still truly enjoyed this. I didn't catch on to the twist at the beginning and enjoyed the overall message very much. Very hard to find, but if you can, it's good reading.

I received this book as a gift 20 years ago. It was a long time before I read it and when I did I felt so foolish: how could I not have read it sooner. Rich, fascinating, amazing.
