I am always looking for my next great read...aren't we all... :)

About a year ago I began delving into the world of paranormal romance. I have a pattern right now of reading 3 - 4 paranormal romance books from a series and then taking a break and reading a classic or something off of my "I've been meaning to read this forever... more »

I have read this series a number of times and I can't seem to get enough. Each time I lone the books to someone I read along with them so that we can discuss them. I have also read the Lord John series although I can't share them with friends because I just have them on my kindle. They are excellent as well. My favorite line is from The Fiery Cross when Claire is trying to tell Jamie that he is brave, he disagrees as he decides to go to war. It says (Jamie speaking), "When the day shall come, that we do part," he said softly, and turned to look at me, "if my last words are not 'I love you'-ye'll ken it was because I didna have time." Try the Lord John series, it's really good. But beware, there are some homosexual scenes in it. HOT!

I was browsing your shelf and was going to recommended some of my favorite series but looks like you read all the ones that I love...LOL :)

I did see that you read the first book in the Argeneau series by Lynsay Sands, I didn't really like the first book either but I did end up reading the rest of the series. The books get better throughout the series, I enjoyed the love story and humor in each of the books. they do lack a bit in the action but I still ended up enjoying them.

Exactly why I sent the request: we seem to have quite a few books in common, especially in the area of post-apocalyptic events and dystopias. I'm really looking forward to starting The Passage (I just bought it today). I thought that The Maze Runner was an excellent read; it vaguely reminded me of The Hunger Games. Thanks for accepting my request!

Sweet! Thank you! I'll definitely will be reading this series and the first two chapters. I think there's going to be another series called "Mount Olympus" but I'm not sure if we'll see Percy and the gang. Though I hope so, they were so much fun!

I had the exact same reaction- reading out of obligation and not desire. I was feeling a bit guilty in not running out and buying my own copy. I checked it out from the library and was glad that I saved my money. Even though it was less than 200 pgs, I did put it down a lot and ultimately didn't really care.

Sounds cool. I'll have to look that up. I'm trying to finish 4 books by next Tuesday, which all have holds on at the library. I seriously don't know where my time goes after I get home from work. Gah!

I'm currently half way through Changeless by Gail Carriger. I love her writing style and characters. I hope to finish it tonight.

Thanks for the update. I really want to read Gena Showalter but there seems like there are sooo many series that I am trying to finish up. Kitty, BDB, Riley Jensen, The Shifters, The Fever, Harry Dresden just to name a few. For what ever reasons, reading has been slow going lately. Life seems to be getting in way recently. Oh well.

How has the audiobooks been doing? --d

LOL, don't worry. I understood your gibberish. A magic shop, eh? I wonder if there's a hellmouth near you that's you're not aware of. ;)

Yeah, I had spent around $95 on books that summer. I carried two bag fulls of books and you should've seen the look on my family's faces. My bookcase is so stocked up that I've been squeezing books in every which way that I can. Looks like I need a new book case or a walkin library. :)

About the Kane Chronicles, I've heard good reviews about it but haven't gotten a copy yet. I'm #9 on the wait list at my library. If I read it sooner than you, I'll definitely let you know. I'm excited about this new series on Egyptian mythology-something that I'm not too familiar with.

I figured since we have similar tastes that I'd ask. I've heard nothing but good reviews on the Night Huntress book and I like to read a series that has at least three or four books into it so I don't have to wait long for the latest release. Like you, I found BDB after reading Twilight. V's book has just come out. Of course, I devoured them and had to painfully wait for Phury's book. LOL!

I went to a used book sale last summer and got the first 5 or 6 Sookie books in paperback for $2 each. All of my BDB friends are reading them and loved it so I thought to give it a whirl. They are usually right about a series. At the same sale, I also found the first 4 Outlander books for $1 each and had to get them. I've also hearding nothing but rave reviews about them. Since they're so huge, I've been waiting for the right time to read them. Thanks for your advice! I hope to read them soon after I clear off my busy reading shelf. :)

What are your thoughts about the Demonica series? I'm wondering which series to start first while I wait on my normal paranormal series to come out with a new book. Here are my choices: Night Huntress, Demonica, and Sookie.

Yeah, I think Lynn Viehl is very funny. I was on her blog recently and she posted this:

Good Girlitis: A serious and often grotesque inflammation of the heroine's moral pulchritude, which results in her utter inability to acquire flaws, make bad decisions or otherwise mess up like the rest of the ordinary mortals on the planet.

InfoMumps: Swollen, boring and largely unattractive monologues offered by dull characters who seem to serve no other purpose except to be on hand to confirm what Bob already knows.

HEAlzheimers: no matter how emotionally screwed up one or more main characters were during the first nineteen chapters of the novel, in the twentieth they forget all their troubles, commit to a serious relationship for which they were always incapable of trying much less sustaining in the past, and otherwise present a permanently welded-on mask of unnatural, lobotomized bliss.

Projectile Dysfunction: the unreasonable, unrealistic but steadily persistent eruption of guns, knives, swords and other phallic symbols wielded by the hero to underscore or serve as visual substitute for his masculinity, heterosexuality, virility, or any other manly man attribute.

Pseudo-BadBoydom: a surface condition which presents the hero as a nasty dirty lowdown mean leather-wearing foul-mouthed ingrate who should be publicly flogged for his innumerable sins and yet mysteriously and instantly vanishes whenever the heroine confesses her love, self-doubts, troubles or any situation in which a real bad boy would actually come in rather handy.

Rumor Paralysis: an emotionally void state in which a character falls in after hearing the most ridiculous, unbelievable, circumstantial gossip about their loved one; at least until said loved one offers up tangible and undeniable evidence to the contrary at the last possible moment versus telling the moron to piss off like any sane person would.

Sexaholism: any mortal character who performs more than four sex acts in a 12-hour period; any semi-mortal character who must sleep with everyone in the novel because if they don't the world is doomed; any immortal character who has non-stop sex with a mortal character and yet does not cause them to spontaneously combust after the four hundredth go.

Tattoomania: characters who enjoy normal employment while sporting so much visible body ink that the only two jobs they could reasonably hold down in the real world would be that of a) a tattoo artist or b) a sideshow freak.

Thanks again for your kind words. :) I try to make my reviews brief and to the point. Since I have readers who read a variety of genres, I try to mix my books even though I'm pretty heavy on YA.

That's a great idea. I'm trying to work out the kinks in having a book index. I thought of making on pg for children's, YA, and adult. Now I'm thinking I should another one based on ratings. What do you think?

I'm SO glad that you are enjoying this series! Isn't it great?! I was kind of sad when I finished or more like devoured the last book. I hope the author writes more books in this world. I [3 Valek and could not get enough of him. There is a spin off series that has Opal as the main character, but I haven't gotten to it yet. I'm going to the library tomorrow to get JM's book. I'm so stinking excited!
