Hullo angels.

I'm a mortician in the fine, wooded state of Michigan. I don't know of too many people with my (questionable) taste in books, so I joined this site to meet fellow bibliophiles and find out what next to read. (And to stroke my ego by showing off my eclectic library of the damned.)

The presence of any title... more »

Chuckle! Could that be a reference to Wheatley's "Uncharted Seas," a sea-monster melodrama whose paperback covers included one of tiny humans being pinched to death by what they thought was an island, but which actually turned out to have pincers? (It was so awful I had to put it down and did not get to the killer-crab section yet.) As far as I know GNS is the only person ever to write a SERIES on killer crabs, especially such a fine one, so you can definitely add "series" to the tag to set it off from the others, like "The Swarm" and "Spider Legs." Oh, may I also suggest Larry Niven's killer-crab story?

It's a relatively small genre. Speaking as another English major, I think you can navigate this one.

Wait -- are you referring to the Guy N. Smith crab books? (She asked nervously?)

Oh, and here's a recommendation I feel sure you will like: A Peculiar Tribe Of People by Richard Jay Hutto. Seriously dysfunctional. :)

That's hilarious you read that atheist book. I saw it at a bookstore the other day and figured it would be pretty good. What the heck is up with you these days???????

Thank you for your prompt post and I sure agree with your choice of true crime author, Harold Schecter! He is one of my favourites and I read his "D" trilogy and they were electrifying, to say the least. One of these days I will re-read "Atlas Shrugged" because I know it was a fascinating book but it has been many years since I picked it up. For me Mark, the novels are 'not my cup-of-tea' and avoid them like the plague. I do have
a question or two to ask you but for now I just wanted to say "Hello"! all the best to you as well....Rita

    CinemApocryphon...
You have quite the eclectic shelf of books and I am curious about the one called Itsy Bitsy, it sounds intriguing. Do you read any true crime books? I must confess upon reading your profile page along with the shelf I am not at all familiar with some of the novels you mentioned, please excuse my ignorance. Have you read Atlas Shrugged? It has been years since I read it but remember it was impressive. ...take care, Rita

It's a shocking idea, I know. Next I'll be thinking that "Rubyfruit Jungle" has some sort of deviant undertone.

By me, there is still a very faint whiff in "Dorian Gray" suggesting that some of the characters are not 100% AC.

When I tried to call it the "C.E.N.S.O.R.E.D." version it wouldn't let me send the note, saying that is a nasty word not allowed on the site. *shrug*

Wait, what's this about you reading director's cut version of 'The Picture Of Dorian Gray'? I never knew it was censored!

Man, you're even more eclectic than you've been letting on. I'm happy you're a brutal ctritic -- I would not be able to withstand Lucky the Leprechaun reading Jeff Eugenides aloud. At least not with a straight face. Say, did you know there's a movie version of Psychopathia Sexualis? I'm sure it's every bit as respectful to the subject matter as Fargo was to the real-life Woodchipper Murder...

Who read the book -- JE himself? because I know he knows how to pronounce local street names, and even though German was not a language offered at our high school. he did live in Berlin for a while...

Let me know what you think of "Middlesex." I wne to high school with the guy who wrote it. I didn't dare try it after reading his first one -- the flashbacks were too severe.
