Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with Mister Monday, having picked up Nix's Old Kingdom trilogy first. The concept was interesting: seven days a week, seven deadly sins, and a bizarre concept of time. Overall, the book was not very engaging. I couldn't connect with the characters and had to force myself to finish the book. While I am slightly curious as to what happens next, I can't see myself picking up the rest of the series any time soon.

Villette took me a very long time to read. It wasn't that it was a difficult read, but it was very morose and hard to get lost in. It bore very little resemblance to one of my favorite books, Jane Eyre. On the whole, Villette was very depressing. If I were older, I could have probably identified with Lucy Snowe a bit more, but most of the time I found her a very dispiriting character to read about. I like Villette, but not with the intensity that I expected to. At first, I was very dismayed at the ending, but at least it was very unexpected. Villette is certainly a singular book. I was never able to predict what would happen next!

  • Terrier (Beka Cooper)

Like all of Pierce's other books, Terrier was wonderful. It took me a while to familiarize myself with all of Pierce's new words: "mot" and "cove" instead of "boy" and "girl," for example. I am eagerly awaiting the remainder of the series! The book is bound beautifully, with a dog imprinted on the front, which I thought a fitting touch.

  • The Picture of Dorian Gray

The Picture of Dorian Gray was an extremely haunting book. Dorian's gradual transformation from innocence to evil was fascinating. I was always able to sympathize with Dorian throughout the book, though some of his thoughts and actions certainly shocked me! I pitied him, loathed him, loved him, and was ashamed of him; sometime simultaneously. Wilde is truly a wonderful author. I don't believe The Picture of Dorian Gray will ever fade from my memory, as I am equally sure that it will always remain one of my favorite books.

The first book in a very wonderful and fresh series. I loved this book! It had an abundance of twists that I was not expecting. The next two books in the series are even better!
