  • The Baby Book
    • Rated 4 stars

Sears' point of view is a bit extreme at times but I don't think any baby could be harmed taking his advice. Before Sears mothers were always told it was bad for your baby to sleep with your child. Now even Brazelton has changed his tune. Sears' special brand of parenting advice has validated and revolutionized the way people look at parenting and treat their children in a very positive way. The Sears family also appears to practice what they preach as well, with something like 8 children no less.
This book should be on every new mother's shelf.

This book, even though I had years of breastfeeding experience, managed to save my breastfeeding relationship with my two youngest 3 times. If I had not had it, I would not have been able to solve the problems I had been having in time. Highly recommended reference.

  • Medications and Mothers' Milk (Medications and Mother's Milk)

The only book out there like it. This book has all the known information about modern medicines and how they effect mother's milk and any known effects on the baby. He ever has developed a rating system for a reference. For many medicines the studies quoted are very small but it is the latest and best information out there and an invaluable tool for both doctors and lactating mothers. Lactating mothers are often given no choice but wean or do without and often it is a medicine the mother needs. The truth is the doctors don't know so err on the side of caution. This could give you a tool to make at least semi-educated decisions on your medical treatment without giving up that very special time with your baby.
Show it to your doctor too, many doctors have never heard of this book even though this guy has spent his career in lactation research.

A fascinating read. This book is written from the unique point of view of both a neuroscientist and a mother of 3. She takes the development of a baby and child's brain and relates it to how it effects parenting and everyday life and learning in (mostly) plain language that you do not have to be a neuroscientist to grasp. For me, this book was both a revelation and a very big help to me as a mother. I highly recommend this book.

I found this book in a box of books I was going through to sell and had to take it out and read it. I found it fascinating. It is a series of short stories set in an alternate reality where the Catholic Church (a much different church than we are used to) rules Britain. The individual stories paint a bigger picture as they go along, giving you a picture that makes you say, "Something needs to be done" and then fulfilling your wish masterfully. I highly recommend this book.

This is a fairy tale for grown ups. It also bears only superficial resemblance to the movie. It is a tale full of wonder, wry humor and adventure when a young man goes out to find his heart's desire and finds... well now that would be telling now wouldn't it. :-)

Not all the stories in this anthology are pretty. There are a few stories in here I actually wish I never read BUT they are all very good stories and I am overly sensitive to some subjects. One thing this book did for me that few books do is to inspire me to WRITE. I love Gaiman's works, though I haven't got the courage to read his books that verge on Horror (too good of an imagination.) but this is a great book of short stories that has a permanent place on my shelf.

These books are in the category of books where I HAVE to finish the series and I love the story but I don't always like the writing. There are some rough places, especially in the earlier books. They are good books though and I am hooked.

This was a surprisingly captivating book for me. I will be reading more of this authors stuff. Well written and has an excellent and complex world setting and plot.

This book has a fascinating premise and I love the world that the author's have built but it drags. There are sections in the book that are really hard to pay attention to because they are trivial and long. I *am* going to keep reading though, simply because I REALLY want to know what happens.
