From the first shocking line, I was caught. Mary Brown might not be one of the All Time Great Authors of all time but her story is interesting, fresh and thought provoking. There are either 3 or 4 books in this series and I don't think I have ever read anything exactly like it.

This is a fantastic book. Narnia meets Potter but it is written almost like Neil Gaiman would have written it and is most definitely NOT a childrens book. There are some very adult themes here. I love Neil Gaiman though, and somehow the tarnish on the myth and magic makes it more real and does not detract from the story.
The reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is simply because, though it is a great story, I am not sure the ending was a 5 star ending. I do hope there are more though.

  • The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

I have read this book so many times I have lost track. Every time I read it, it cracks me up yet again. It is so thoroughly absurd yet entertaining at the same time. It was, apparently, meant to be a spoof of the SF genre and was originally a radio show.
Every once in a while something in everyday life makes me flash upon the hitchhikers guide and I have to laugh. Once read you will never look at anything quite the same way again. My family actually has running jokes that have gone on for years that refer to this series of books.
A must read for anyone who doesn't insist that SF be utterly serious and accurate.

Love these books! They are not fine literature but they are fun reading. Kind of an Indiana Jones meets Witchblade type storyline. This book is pretty much par for the course for this series and I enjoyed every minute of it :-)

  • Heart of Stone (The Negotiator Trilogy, Book 1)

Wow! I just finished reading this book and this is going to be a can't miss trilogy. The author says in her preface that, "This book is the result of more butt-in-chair work than I want to think about" and it has certainly paid off. This is her best work yet.
I cannot wait for the next one!

A great book, I would even go so far as to call it a classic, but a bit sad. This is a book everyone should read at least once.

  • The Irreducible Needs of Children: What Every Child Must Have to Grow, Learn, and Flourish
    • Rated 5 stars

This book says things no one else would dare. They may be controversial but they are at least things our society needs to think about. There were things in it that gave me pause but they were logical and well thought out. Not really just a parenting book, more like a manifesto for looking out for our children.
