My name is Emily and I live in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, with my husband (Bob), my wire-haired terrier (Danny), and my two cats (Tinkerbell and Tuffy). I'm a freelance technical writer, specializing in regulatory and end-user documentation for medical device companies. My husband and I love to travel, entertain, golf, ski, hike, bike, go to the theater, listen to NPR, play cards, go to concerts at Red Butte Garden, drink wine, barbeque, and hang out in the hot tub.
We both LOVE animals. We don't believe in getting purebred animals when awesome pets are available in shelters. Danny is our one-eyed wire-haired fox terrier that we rescued 3 years ago when he was 8 years old--and he is a love. Danny is affectionate with our cats, playful with other dogs, and gentle with children.
My husband, Bob, is from Bozeman, Montana. Bob was a ski racer in his younger days, and he was a ski instructor and guide for a helicopter skiing company. In addition to skiing, he's an experienced mountain biker, rock climber, horseman, and kayaker. He plays the clarinet and other woodwind instruments and a little guitar. Bob owned a trucking company for many years, but sold it and went back to school (University of Wyoming) when he was 40 and earned an M.S. in Soil Science. While in in school, he conducted research into global warming in Alaska. Bob now works for an environmental consulting firm.
Bob and I both came to Salt Lake in the fall of 2004 for job opportunities. I relocated from California and Bob relocated from Montana. We met in January 2005 and were married on October 1, 2005. We are a match.com success story!
Our granddaughter, Lucy, was born on 12/7/07 and Charlie was born on 1/26/11. They live with my amazing daughter and wonderful son-in-law in Portland, Oregon. I wish I could see them more often!
I currently belong to two book clubs: Ladies #1 and Bibliobabes. I love both of these clubs, but I also have a long, long list of books that I want to read on my own and stacks of books that I plan to read.
I'm glad that I found Shelfari. I will only give 5 stars to books I loved so much that I couldn't put them down, stayed up way past my bedtime to read, and want to re-read (and there are so many good books that I rarely re-read anything). Memorable books that I would highly recommend to friends will get 4 stars. In other words, I'm a rather harsh critic.
In closing, I just want to say that I wish I had more time to read. The only downside of browsing through book shelves and reading reviews is realizing that I don't have time to read even a small percentage of the books that appeal to me.
