Of course I've read more books than listed on my shelf but have just started adding them. I don't usually hold on to my books so can't remember most of them. :)

I like historical fiction, fantasy, mythology, science fiction, and other things. But I guess those my favorites.

It was pretty funny. Of course it is written for elementary/middle school kids so maybe I should have given it a 4. It's good for a kids book.

At first I loved it. I am only on week 1 but some of her comments about God's prophets disturbed me. Some of it is true. My main issue is with calling Joseph bragging spoiled brat. He never bragged. He did tell about his dream. If you had dreams like he did wouldn't you want to talk to your family about them and share and get their input? He definitely wasn't a brat. He may have been spoiled I don't know. He was favored of his father because Israel loved Rachel the best and Joseph was his child through Rachel. But that is the fault of Jacob not Joseph. He tried to be obedient to his parents and to the Lord. I am going to continue reading the book because overall it is good but I don't think judgment and criticism should be passed on the prophets when we know so little of their circumstances. Where they did go wrong, and even they admit their imperfection and wonder of their calling from God, was generally before their calling was made. After that time they did their best to do the Lord's will. The one exception being David who did fall out of favor. He was a king not a prophet. So yes they were imperfect and are good examples for us to use in seeing that even we can be instruments in the Lord's hands. I just think some of the facts were misconstrued and the judgments a bit harsh.

I love this book. Janie's thoughts and feelings regarding her marriages are thoughts that have often crossed mine. I have known the feelings that she had for Tea Cake how he made everything into summertime for her and as long as she was with him she was happy. I'm about at her age at the close of the story and still trying to find myself like she finally does. A beautiful story of, among other things, breaking free from expectations and living for yourself. In my eyes anyway. Janie and Tea Cake's relationship is what love between a husband and wife should be.
