I'm the kind of girl who loves a great book. I used to love the goofy romance books, but now I've decided I like the stuff with more twists, action, and....well.....more complex romance. I love all sorts of books, horror, suspense, romance (most of all, romance during war!).

Books about WWII and the holocaust are usually on my favorite... more »

The last I checked at IMDb it said that the movie's still in development but it doesn't mention any actors. Hmm, who could I picture in the characters? I'm not seeing Josie in anyone but Robert Pattinson could be good as Jack. But then he's so closely associated with the Twilight films that it probably wouldn't work.

I haven't read "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" yet. I need to do that. Have you ever read "In Face of Danger" by Mara Kay? It's a YA novel about an English girl who, while staying with a family in Germany during WW II, discovers that the family is hiding two Jewish girls in the attic. The girls have been separated from their parents and their former housekeeper is hiding them from the Nazis until they can be reunited with their mother and father who are also in hiding elsewhere. The English girl decides to help the two girls find their parents. I liked the book; it's too bad that it's not very well known.

Hey, I noticed in your profile notes that you mentioned liking romance-in-war novels. I just finished reading a great little book called "How I Live Now" by Meg Rosoff. It's about a teenage girl named Daisy that goes off to England to stay with some of her cousins. While she's there she and her cousin Edmond become romantically involved. Then a world war breaks out (as the book is set in the present day I can only assume this would be WW III) and Daisy and Edmond become separated. A lot more happens of course, some of it quite harrowing. You should give it a try.

I saw a note at IMDb that said "Josie and Jack" is currently in production. I'll be curious to see it, whenever it comes out. Of course I'll probably be disappointed too; that usually happens with me whenever I see a movie version of a book.

Hi LoveIsPeachy, I just read your review of "You Must Remember This" by Joyce Carol Oates and I thought you did a nice job of summing up the book. I only read it a few weeks ago and I liked it a lot. I also noticed that you have "Josie and Jack" on your shelves too. Didn't you just love it? It's quickly become one of my favorites. I hear it's going to be a movie soon. That should be interesting.

They're really fast reads and pretty entertaining. The protagonist gets on my nerve a bit sometimes, but all in all, not bad!

An author always thinks her/his book is GREAT. But rather than me tell you, will you take a moment to read the following reviews and maybe add them to your shelf? Thank you very much. I think you’ll love them as much as the readers below did.

February, 2009, Sojourn With A Stranger, K. Celeste Bryan
    Rating: 5 stars * * * * *

    Blurb:

Penniless when she arrives in Norfolk , her mother and father drowned at sea, Raine Brinsley would give anything to return home to her grandfather in Maine . When Derek Stafford, owner of a large plantation, offers a solution to her dilemma, she’s stunned, if not outraged. She’d prefer to fulfill the contract to have his child and forget about him and his self-serving scheme. But she hadn’t counted on the decadently-delicious passion he’d awakened in her.

Derek’s only desire was to father an heir for Stafford House, thus securing his future. He didn’t count on the Scottish lass with dark green eyes to interfere with his well-laid plans. But after one night in her arms, guilt, not to mention the loss of his heart, became his penance. Now he’d do anything to get her back, anything to quench the hunger and passion tormenting his soul.

    Review:

My Thoughts: ***Sigh*** What can I say...

This was such a good book! K. Celeste Bryan did a superb job in this story!!! I was immediately pulled into the story of Raine and Derek.

Raine is a young woman full of Scottish blood... and we all know how stubborn those Scots can be! When faced with the tragic loss of her parents she finds herself stranded in Norfolk without a penny and refusing to write to the only relative she has left. She will not except Derek's offering to pay her way home, willing only to work in his employ to save money to make her own way home. Derek comes up with another plan... a very selfish one at that. If Raine agrees to Derek's schemes she will have enough money to get home, take care of her Grandfather, and never worry about money again.

Bryan makes you love, hate, and pity Derek. He was selfish and selfless. He blames himself for his late wife losing her mind, that and the decisions he has made since Raine showed up on his doorstep sends him running from Stafford Hall when Raine needs him the most.

I didn't want the story to end. It was another late night of reading...

There was love, loss, mystery, and ghosts in this book. It is a must read that has landed a permanent spot on my shelf under favorites!!

WHERE THE RAIN IS MADE REVIEWS

    FIVE STARS

First off let me start off my saying . . . I loved Where the Rain is Made! I predict this book to be a best seller. It is so good that words can’t describe it, but I will try. I enjoyed everyone from Cesca to Meko and everyone else in between. I read the electronic version and at three hundred plus pages, I sometimes have a hard time sitting for so long staring at a computer screen. I have to tell you that when I began reading this book I found myself glued to the seat. My husband ended up cooking dinner for me as I was engrossed in this book. Where the Rain is Made is a pleasure to read. There are not many books that come along like this one, but when they do, watch out. I am now on the hunt to read more books by K. Celeste Bryan.

    New K. Bryan fan!
    By war "lv2rd" FIVE STARS

I just have to say I would and have recommended this book to all fans of paranormal and historical romance. Bryan writes a great story! This is the story of Ethan Gray aka Meko, a time wanderer Cheyenne Dog warrior, and Fracesca Duvall, a white woman taken captive by him. The story starts off with Meko being sent back in time to try to save as many of the Cheyenne as possible but not interfere with the outcome of battles. Cesca and her father and brother live in Colorado looking for gold as so many settlers did at the time.

Where The Rain Is Made starts off with action and Im telling you it doesn't stop until the very last period. The Dog Soldiers attack the mining community and she is taken prisoner by Meko. Her brother is taken prisoner by a more ruthless soldier and the same one that killed their father. Cesca and her brother go through so much after they are captured but she remains a strong heroine, and that is what I really really like about this book. She does not cower, and only begs for her brother to be spared. I like the strength and that would be expected as she becomes the Dog Warriors wife.

Bryan had me go through a gamut of emotions with this book. I was laughing, fearing, crying, and there were so many moments of heart wrenching emotion with the hero and heroine. Bryan also introduced me to so many historical things I did not realize, ie: Dog Soldiers, had no idea they existed, she really did her homework on the back story here. There were many scenes with indian celebrations, and traditions. The story has a great twist at the end and I look forward to Bryan writing a story on Mountain Lion maybe?! I will be revisiting this book many many times.

Wendy From Goodreads had this to say:

“This is a great book! I highly recommend reading it! Plus the author is a wonderful person in general and responds graciously to all her emails!

Ethan Gray aka Meko, a time traveling Dog Soldier is called upon to go back in time from his modern day life to help his people, he meets his fate with Francesca (Cesca) the green eyed wildcat, when the Dog Soldiers are warring on the mine camp her father and brother are at. She is captured by Meko, and wow...does the story ever keep you glued to it. There was suspensful moment after suspensful moment. The conflicts and hurdles were just non stop but the love story was so touching.

Plus Bryan gives you so much great history about the Cheyenne in the book. I went through so many emotions with this book. I laughed, there were numerous times I felt my heart just clench in my chest for Cesca and Ethan. I havent read an Indian romance in a long, long while, but Im telling you WHERE THE RAIN IS MADE is a great book.

I will be revisiting it frequently to say the least.”

We only have to wait until April 7! Have you watched the YouTube video for the new book, "Curse The Dawn" that is on Karen Chances' Web site? It's pretty cool! Though I don't picture Mircea to look like the guy who they use in the vide, at all. For one, he has long hair in the book, but not on the video, though they do only show him for a second or two, to be fair. The new book sounds like it will be the best so far. Have you read the excerpt for it? Her and her friends against the god Apollo, who gave her her powers. I am so excited!

Who do I like Cassie with best? Well...that's a difficult one. I think Mircea is totally hot. But I am really liking the tension building between John and Cassie. And I like that he is fighting his feelings, and that a part of him doesn't completely trust her. As much as I like Mircea, I don't like that he wants so much to control Cassie because of her powers, even though I don't doubt that he wants her. I think Karen Chance is going to stretch out this situation for as long as she can, and pull Cassie back and forth between them. Which suits me just fine, because it gives her a lot to work with as far as story lines go.

Well, in a way yes it is good, but the third is better. A good series, just disappointed that there hasn't been anymore released, and you can't find much on the author of them. They are almost like the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. I think they are great overall though :0)

I think he saw the depth of her emotion for Max in the last book when he saved her and instead of looking at him she was trying to find Max in the crowd. He thought at the time "And so it goes." He knew.

Well, I was actually referring to any sort of huge age gap book--not necessarily just older woman/teenage boy, as it could easily be reversed. I'm not sure if I'm interested in that one book you mentioned... sometimes I can't get over an icky-ness factor to actually read/watch something, so I think that really applies right here. Although, if you say it's well written and whatnot, I will give it a shot--so tell me what you think of it, okay? :D Thanks!

Yeah, I totally agree with you. It is easier for a teenage boy, but... although it was all of a forbidden romance situation, I found myself sympathizing with her. No one, no matter what the age is, etc, wants to be stuck in that sort of situation, you know? It hurts no matter what the situation is... and she foolishly threw herself into that when it was BOUND to go south anyway. D:

I wonder if there's any other novel similar to that one. D'you happen to know? I know you're a larger fans of books than I am!

And what if, in his anger and/or despair S turns into a venator vamp??

I definitely think Max was in love with her early on. I think that's why he was always so short w/her and annoyed w/her in the first book. I had thought Max was going to be her HEA at first, so I was confused when we met Sebastian.

I always thought he was hot, but I totally fell for him when he killed his great, great, etc grandfather for her. She makes him a better man. (Although, I think that was always there, he was just skittish about falling for someone after the horrific end of his engagement to Max's sister!) To me, S is competent and capable but he's also fun and colorful. I think he would help keep the ugliness of their world at bay. Max= scowl, brood, scowl, sigh . . .

Although, having said that, I totally had butterflies in my stomach when Max kissed her against that wall! And when they finally came together and he said, "Don't say anything." I was a bit emotional, in a good way!

I can't wait to see what's going to happen in the next book--I don't think Max will be able to resist her for long! Did you notice that the next cover is the only one with a couple on it?

But what will happen to S???? Is there no HEA for him?
