Books are my passion. I worked in a book store and library in high school/college and have a degree in English. My dream job would be running an independent bookstore/coffee shop. If there is a heaven, I imagine it has an endless supply of mochas, diet coke, books and all manner of animals - wild and tame. All-time favorite authors include... more »

    Hi!

The Minneapolis-St.Paul-Minnesota Group recently hit 100 members, so we're kicking off a 100-Member Celebration! Details are available on the group site. Hint: It involves a drawing for some gift certificates, and participation is required in order to be eligible for the drawing :-) Come celebrate with us!

Also, we've announced that our summer group read will be Leif Enger's newest book: So Brave, Young and Handsome. I'm reading this book right now and will have the discussion thread up by next week. The thread will be available for discussion this entire summer.

I have two dogs also they weren't adopted but when I saw them at the yard my husband works at I just knew they had to be mine. They are husky mixes we do not know who the father is but we suspect it was the beautiful german sheperd next door. I know they love snow. Today here in NJwe had the big storm and they were so happy, we couldn't keep them inside for a minute, its almost nightfall and they do not want to come in. I love big dogs, my favorite part of dog shows is always the working group.Although its hard here in the city. I'm glad you wrote back.I think we are going to do alot talking about our favorite books.

    Hi Lauralia,

I just wanted to send you a quick note to tell you that the Minneapolis-St.Paul-Minnesota Group has chosen some good books to read and discuss together during the upcoming months. Our Group Read for the months of September/October will be The Master Butcher’s Singing Club by Louise Erdrich and the group read for the months of November/December will be Growing An Inch by Stanley Gordon West. Both books are by Minnesota authors.

I invite you to join us in reading and discussing these books. I just finished The Master Butchers Singing Club and thought it was a great piece of historical fiction. I've started a thread in the group for discussion and would love to hear your thoughts also.

I love the Inspector Banks series. Here is his website: http://www.inspectorbanks.com/books/ the best way to read him is chronologically because each book builds on the last one. Hope you like him

Hi! Just wanted to let you know that we are currently taking nominations for September/October group reads for the Minneapolis-St.Paul-Minnesota group .The books nominated don't have to be by Minnesota authors or have Minnesota ties, but that is preferable. Feel free to nominate any genre and type of book, as long as you think it is interesting and relevant to this group. Nominations will remain open for a few more days, at which time I will close nominations and we will vote.

There is also a separate thread to discuss how the group want to proceed with group reads in general. Whether or not to do them. How often, etc. Your input on this subject would be very much appreciated also!
