So many books, so little time! I am a book junkie, I love to read books and I love to own books, there is no such thing as too many books. I have listed, in no particular order, some of my favorites. Really, I have too many favorites to list. I read mostly modern fiction, almost any genre. Mystery is my favorite genre, but surprisingly, not... more »

    Hi Ya LKL -

    How are you doing?
I read "The Glass Castle" and it was really good. I didn't want to approach that book because of the apparent subject matter. But describing the topic of this book as homelessness is like saying "The Kite Runner" is about flying a kite, or "Middlesex" is only about adrogeny. Many people of my book club said they also probably wouldn't have chosen the book on their own if it weren't for the club, but after beginning the book we all agreed we didn't want to put it down.

Also, I read "Into Thin Air" and it was a really good true account of a disasterous climb of Mount Everest. I really like Jon Krakauer books.

    Just wanted to share.

All my best to you and the other ladies! Sincerely, Heather

Good to hear from you! I'll have to look into some of those books like "The Ghost Writer" and "Right as Rain". "Boating Party..." sounds good too.

I have been looking for a job and been trying to set up this house. However, I've found some time to read. I stay distracted with everything new to deal with so picking up a book and staying dedicated to it is rather hard.

This move was particularly hard because of the tightening in lending with the banks, we had a real hard time finding a house and getting the loan. Whew! I got through it.

Oh - one really great book... "Into the Wild" by Jon Krakaur. Very interesting and gave more insight than the movie.

    oh well, later, heather

    Hey LKL -

Sorry I did not respond to you earlier. I have not gotten use to Shelfari since the format was changed. I didn't read my messages or see them until today.

Patricia Henley...??? Yes, we did read Hummingbird House. I think "In the River Sweet" is one that someone mention to me a long time ago, and I posted it just so that I don't forget to look into it. I don't recall ever reading it.

How the hek are you doing? I just finished "Three Cups of Tea"... pretty good, but I thought it was a bit too long.

The next three books I'm reading for groups are "Painters of Battles", "The Glass Castle", and "The Guernsey Literary...".

Hope you are finding great books to read.... let me know!

    Sincerely, Heather

    Hi Linda
I took your advice and read Truth and Beauty. Very captivating but also somewhat disturbing. It really makes one think about the life of a writer and MFA programs. Have you read any of the comments from Lucy's sister? Interesting. My book club here is reading Eat, Pray, Love, we meet next Tuesday, so it will be interested to see what everyone else thinks. It was okay, but I really think the author still needs to be on her medication. I am listening to The Time Traveler's Wife, okay, but not great, just an interesting concept. What I am really into right now is British mystery writers. I just finished one by Val McDermid which I enjoyed. I also just started the series mystery written where different authors write a chapter on audible, just got into it, so can't give an opinion yet. Let me know what the book club thought of Truth and Beauty if you have time. Happy reading.

    Hi
Received your note, thanks for the suggestion for a future book club book. I am a member of audible to download books to my ipod and just downloaded Truth and Beauty, as I had just read an article about it also. I agree with your opinion regarding The Road, but will have to pick up the magazine you suggested to see if it changes my mind any. Sorry to see that Heather has left the area, but it's great to stay in touch with the book club. I enjoy seeing what the book club is reading.
