My neighbor says that she never has time to read. I never can seem to find the time to do much of anything else.
My rating system may be a little different from yours. I often can't remember which books are better or best or which just have to be read whether I like them or not.
I'll be exploring New England this fall. Let me know what...more »

I put in my mission papers next month. I'm really excited! I should be heading out in December, if they call me close to my availability date. Any suggestions on good books I should get in before leaving?

Yes, I forgot you were to be exploring New England in the fall.

Be sure you make a literary pilgrimage to Concord. And nearby Walden Pond, which is the abstract concept of irony made manifest in the physical world. If you're familiar with Thoureau, you'll see what I mean.

Also, pop up to Amherst and visit the Dickinson Homestead if you're a fan of E.D. And the Twain house in Hartford is a lovely visit. And if you check yourself into the McLean sanitorium for psychiactric treatment, you'll be following of Robert Lowell, Anne Sexton and Sylvia Plath, among many others.

Visit Salem and Glouchester, and take a whale watching day trip. You might see Moby Dick.

Swing up into Vermont and visit the quaint little villages. You can read your Robert Frost aloud in the car as long as you're not driving.

Yes, I have - but not in nearly enough time to explore its nooks and crannies. I did spend a few weeks in Cambridge years ago doing a show there (in a former life) and loved it. I think Harvard Yard has pretty much become a shopping mall now, or so I hear, but back then it was lovely. I played pool with members of the Hasty Pudding club and drank vodka with Scholzenetzin's grandson. Lovely memories.

No, I haven't yet. It's a delightful play. It's been years and years since I've seen or read it, but it makes me smile to think about it. Full of eccentric Southern humor.

Yes, some people's systems experience more technical difficulties than others, I'm not sure why that is. Anyway, whose face are you wearing?

I'm going to read "I Capture the Castle". It's been sitting at eye level in my bedroom bookcase which means that I've been meaning to read it for about a year. I could have picked a couple other books but I have no idea where they are hiding in the tottering stacks in my living room.

Hey Littlemom- I hope you don't think I'm a stalker or anything but I see that you are going to read The Doomsday Book by Connie Willis. Let me know what you think- I absolutely loved it although it can be a bit unpleasant to read at times (After all, it IS about the plague. All in all though I found it a great read. There is a lot more to it than just rats and people dying! Enjoy your BBD book swap!

    Bookswap calling!!

How would you feel about reading some science fiction involving time travel, medieval England, and ... plague?
I'm talking about Connie Willis's "Doomsday". A young historian from the future travels to a medieval English village and, by a programming mistake, arrives there just in time for Black Death. The story jumps back and forth from the past to the future.

Or perhaps a mystery. I really like Janwillem van de Wetering. He writes quirky crime novels starring two cops in Amsterdam.
You could try "Outsider in Amsterdam", the first in the cycle, written in 1970s. I'm trying to get you hooked here, you see... ;)

Check out these books and tell me how you feel about reading them. If they don't appeal to you, I'll be happy to recommend something yet different.

Yes, I have add Mary Stewart to my wish list I have so many books I want to read and my list keeps growing and growing. I have researched my family history since 1992, but when I went back to work full time I am not able to dedicate the time I once did.
