I just finished reading 'The Murder of King Tut.' If I were to rate the book without taking the historical facts into account, I'd give it 5 stars. It had the makings of a page-turner. However, since this was not a novel--as the cover of the book clearly states and Patterson made clear--the book barely made 3 stars for me. I'm not an Egyptologist, by far, but I do love ancient Egyptian history--and while I went through a few years of Art History studies, I gladly learned a few things. The theory that King Tut was murdered is a very tempting one, and no matter what studies have been made and what conclusions have been reached, the case still holds its mysteries. However, I can't overlook the fact that James Patterson presented the 'data' that he did in such a way that it appeared to be cold fact, without giving the backup to us, as readers, of its historical accuracy. Where exactly did he get all of this information from? At least the ‘how did boy-king died’ bits? I wouldn't mind in the least seeing some cited documents that gave him his details. A lot of it seemed as hopeful guess-work on his part, and came across as a tad presumptuous in the cocksure way that it was written. It does sound tad harsh on my part, but if the evidence supports the facts...
