Teri - I sense a pattern in your reading! I am thinking of adding the King Raven Trilogy, and see that you just finished Hood. Can you tell me what you thought? I see you gave it three stars.

You are bringing back memories, and not all good, of my undergraduate work--Clarissa, Tristram Shandy. I liked the Moon is Down. It is not my favorite Steinbeck. I think he accomplished what he set out to do in this particular case.

I just started last night, so I can't really say, yet. I have been getting back into Steinbeck lately, but I don't always like everything he does.

I was an English major as well, and am currently an assistant superintendent as well as a published author. I see you are currently reading The Moon Is Down. I just started it. Have a great day.

Welcome to the group based on the book 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die. There is a general explanation of the group under the discussion thread Group guidelines. The books of the month (BOTM) that the group is reading are pinned to the top. I hope you will enjoy the group and perhaps join in one or more of the monthly reads. Our March books have been chosen and they are #1 is The Unfortunate Traveller by Thomas Nashe This book was first published in 1594 and can be found in the public domain. # 2 is Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, #3 would be Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky. We will start choosing April’s book about mid March.

I've been adding a few books at a time to my shelf, or this process could become a full time job. It's amazing how many books I have piled around my house, and then when I think about all the works I've read over the years, it's staggering. I always considered myself to be an avid reader, but when I went back to school in 2004, it was like a reading blitzkrieg.

Thanks for the book recommendations. The satire sounds interesting for me. My 10th graders read Butler's Kindred, which was their required summer reading. I do believe that one will become one of the standard modern school choices. (I hesitate to use the word "canon.")

Hi fellow teacher and reader! What area are you hoping or planning to teach? It looks like you have a strong background in women writers. Any that you particularly recommend for high school students?

Teri - I enjoyed looking at your "favorites" shelf. I noticed there are several books that not many people have read, which makes me want to read them even more. I added "Making the Mummies Dance" to my plan-to-read shelf. Thanks!
