I'm the former manager of an independent bookstore which sadly, had to close, but it has not extinguished my love of bookselling. I now work part time for two other indie bookstores. I've always been an avid reader, and have found my passion in putting the right book into just the right persons hands. By the way, I also love cats as much as... more »

What did you think of ME BEFORE YOU? I loved it -- the ending made me cry, but it was the right ending for the book. Have you heard a date for Pam Dorman's Buzz group yet?

PPS: The Jeeves and Wooster books by P G Wodehouse have been suggested to me several times as great books to add to this list, but I haven't had a chance to read them so they aren't on the list yet.

PS: Some of the books I've labelled comfort include childhood favorites I enjoy re-reading when I'm sick or down. Those might be personal to me, but most people I've talked to say they like to re-read childhood favorites too, the titles just vary from person to person.

Hi! Sure no problem. Go to my shelf of books by clicking on my picture. Under the shelf of books is a collection of 'tags'. One of those tags is called comfort books. Click on the words and it should show you the same shelf with only the books tagged comfort books on it. If it won't work I can send you a typed list of the titles instead. :)

    No,no openings.

I thought Behind the Beautiful Forevers was terribly depressing, but so well done that I was not at all sorry that I read it. I loved the way she used dialogure in a non-fiction narrative.

We have Anne Lamott and Caroline Leavitt coming on Thursday night -- ticketed or I would say come. Andy Cohen from BRAVO in mid May. I don't watch TV, so I am not a big fan, but lots of people are.

I'm reading the new book by Katherine Howe -- interesting, but so far not compelling.

It's great to hear from you again.

Hi Linda, I see you have been busy here on Shelfari, which is a good sign as it must mean you are feeling better. There was a nice little piece on The Book of Jonas in the Chron this weekend. If I recall correctly, it was this week's Parade Pick for books. I'm currently reading Margaret Goerge's (older) novel about Mary, Queen of Scots. It's huge, but I'm enjoying it. Once I've finished, I'll be diving into Behind the Beautiful Forevers. That book has been getting tons of coverage! Great game last night, wasn't it? Darra

Beautiful Assassin is by Michael White and published last year -- I discovered it in my many piles of books, thought it looked interesting. And amazingly enough, it's really good -- a young Russian woman who killed 300 Germans -- she was a sniper, based on a true story apparently.

Glad to hear you're at Diesel only -- I like John and Allison a lot. You know Mike worked for them just before he bought Rakestraw.

Recently, Joy for Beginners, Dreams of Joy, The Darlings (one of Pam Dorman's books for next winter). Those are the most recent.

    Really enjoying A Fierce Radiance.

We took 6 months to read W & P. Three is ambitious, I think.
