I'm a mother, a wife, and an English teacher, in that order though my distribution of time might not match my life's priorities. I was once a prolific reader, though lately I've been struggling to find time to read, so I find myself starting books and having to leave them unfinished. Sometimes I do this with regrets because I love the book,... more »

I loved college! WMU is great and a perfect fit. I have been in Kalamazoo all summer so it's almost like I already started year two. I am ready for all my friends to return but not the craziness that classes will bring. I did really enjoy reading SL by chapter and discussing. Are you ready for school to start back up? Classes for me start the same day so at least you still have some time.

Mrs. Berlin! How have you been? Hope your summer is going well and that you are enjoying the time off and such. You got to teach the Scarlet Letter this past year correct? I hope that went well since you love it so much :) Hope you are well.

I have not. But, I was with Lyndi last night at the visiting writer lecture series and heard Francine Prose. This is one of her books and the title reminded me of the book Lyndi read for your class in HS. I think it's about how reading makes one a better writer. It just sounded interesting.

    Linda,
Let's be realistic here. We always have been and always will be "with it." It's everybody else trying to keep up with us. :)

PS: You aren't teaching Beloved? Teacher who needs to fill my mind with great literature say what? I read The Bluest Eye and Toni has a penchant for making her audience feel for the most distasteful characters. I want to read Song of Solomon but after Drown by Junot Diaz and 100 Years Of Solitude. :)

Mrs Berlin! American Born Chinese was a very good book. I was pleasantly surprised but it's very funny and very ... innocent? Not sure how to word it but I liked it.

Yeah, my faves were books 1 & 3, but you really need to get through them all for the full story. :-)

What's up...are you on a Richard Wright kick? I thought you disliked (maybe that's a bit glossed over) him... :-) Glad to see you liked "Speak"

Got your message about the Captain Bluebear Book. I have not had a chance to read it yet, but I would like to. I think you might like - it sounds different very creative. Supposedly it is a huge hit in Europe - so I might give it a go!
If you read it first let me know how you like it.

Finished Finn. Thanks for the recommendation - loved it even more as I continued. A great AP read - they could handle the violence.
