I hated reading till about three years ago; basically I thought that everybody that read was a nerd. That notion radically changed after a picked up my first book and found that I actually liked reading. Since then I’ve been dubbed by many friends as a 'book worm', and I’m damn proud to be one =].

I read anything for the most part,... more »

I wouldn't say exactly. The TV series definitely embellishes on the importance of other characters. To be honest I think their both equally good in their own right and can honestly stand alone. (If that makes any sense)

I'm not sure, I haven't read Crime and Punishment but it was written in the 30's I think.

The books are really good. I mean, they're definitely a guilty pleasure read but I can't help myself! And yeah, the guys are gorgeous! I haven't finished watching the second season, but I have finished reading the second book (I'm actually halfway through the forth), oh goodness there is so many good things that will happen in the TV series.

I've read some Vonnegut myself, Slaughterhouse five and Breakfast of Champions but that's about it.
Who is The Shadow of the Wind by?

    Hey!
I changed my username (KidNamedCudi) but I don't really go much on the book boards because they're pretty much dead.
I didn't read nearly as much this last year (in 2008 I read 50, in 2009 prolly 20) lol. I absolutely LOVED Atlas Shrugged, and I've been kind of slogging through The Fountainhead. It's not that it isn't a good read, but my brain can't handle 700 pages lol. Instead I've been reading The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov which is VERY intriguing, it's essentially Faust in Soviet Russia. I've also been reading the Sookie Sackhouse series by Charlaine Harris, and watching the TV series TrueBlood. Ever heard of it? It's like Twilight without the stupid and more sex and violence, lol. It's good. But yeah, that's what I've been up to. How 'bout you?

Good day =D As expected, you own a Shelfari account as well. You sure have a wide variety of genres on your shelf. I'll keep in mind to refer to your shelf before visiting the bookshop.

Ooh ok. Why are you doing A Levels? Why not foundation? I've heard A levels are really hard.

Lol, anywhere's better than Utama. =D

For some reason, I can't really imagine you doing Medicine. I have no problem imagining you as a journalist though, lol. I think you'd make a great one. =D

Oh ok. Thanks. I've already photocopied all of them. I just don't know how to get them to you.

I really want to take EL! But I'm doing IGCSEs now, and I'm not sure if it'll be easy or not, coz the format is supposed to be different from O Levels. But I need another subject, and I definitely do not want Add Math, so I might just take EL. But I don't know. I still have time to think about it, since I'm just going to focus on Math now and do the exam in November.

What college/uni do you go to? Come on, it can't be worst than Sri Utama, haha.

That really sucks. =( couldn't you send them back to get checked again?

I'm not going back. =D *knocks on wood* I still haven't found tutors, and don't even know what subjects I'm going to take, but I'll figure it out soon. =)

So, what are you studying in Uni? Oh, and btw, I have to give you back your notes and stuff. They're still with me.

Lol, it's neither of those. I was in Iran for about 2 months, with no access to internet. I just got back a few days ago.
So how's life? How were your O Levels? Swan told me you got an A for English. That's awesome!

I didn't really understand Heart of Darkness. It was OK, but I think I would appreciate it better if I read it again.

Hi, I have read Heart of Darkness, perhaps you didn't notice it on my shelf.
I think you'll find Season of Migration to the North very interesting because the main character who narrates the story of Said comes to his village after many years' absence. It's similar to The Great Gatsby, a sort of "outsider" narrates the story of someone else.

I didn't understand the context of the book when I read it, but it was interesting to me that the colonization of Sudan gave Said (the main character in the book) the opportunity of learning in London. Compared to the kind of education my father received, it is much more advanced than today's education in the Sudan, which is very weak.
After coming from London, Said is also a kind of outsider; nobody knows his real life. He tells the others in the village that he owns a company in Khartoum, or something like that.

I hope you find this useful.

Haha, I know. But they are much better characters that Edward or Jacob could ever be. They're pretty much badass. lol.

I just finished Atlas Shrugged. Wow, I can't quite put into words how much I loved it. It quite literally has changed my entire outlook on life. However, that is not to say that everyone will feel the same way. It is the type of book that if you already have leanings towards Rand's ideals, you'll love it. If you don't, you'll probably end up hating it.

But on a fangirl level, there are like three über-amazing male characters that I absolutely adore. ::sigh::

It's basically "this is why everything you think is stupid, and here's why" type of speech but she relates it to everything. Still good, I'm just stuck I guess.

For sure, and I have college starting soon...I'll never get to read!

I'm like 940 pages through....only like 120 left! But I'm at this speech part that's 50 pages long that's extremely important to the book, but dreadfully boring.

Last year I think I read exactly 50, but there's no way I'll get it this year, I'm maybe at 15. I just haven't had the time! Especially with Atlas Shrugged!

Yeah she was. And I agree, anything taken to the extreme can be destructive, no matter how good it's intentions. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe everything Rand says could possibly work, but I do agree with her basic fundamentals. And yes, plot is tailored around Objectivism, but it's still entertaining. There are parts where you can tell she set it up in order to lecture the world on this or that, but generally it's pretty good.

Well, Atlas Shrugged isn't for everyone. It's just that my political views are very similar to Rand's, which is why I enjoy it so much. But the other books I've been reading in between are just mush so my brain isn't completely overwhelmed. Not really anything worth talking about.

And yes, I saw Public Enemies the day it came out. Critically it's good, the acting is good, the cinematography is good, etc. However, it just kind of lacks that extra "something". It doesn't ever really feel like it climaxes. I liked it well enough, but it's not a movie that EVERYONE is going to like.
