I'm a freshman English teacher and speech team coach at my high school. My husband is also a teacher and drama director at his school. We are excited to be finally finished with our paperwork for our future adoption! Reading certainly helps me pass the time while we wait for our future daughter or son.

I am very passionate about...more »

This was another good book in the Anita Blake series. The books certainly have somewhat of an overall pattern at this point but there are still shocking twists and turns that make it worth reading.

For anyone who enjoys reading "vampire books," this book is certainly a different take on the whole vampire culture. I thought that Westerfeld had an interesting concept, basing vampirism on scientific evidence and explaining it in comparison to other real parasites that actually exist in the world.

I also think that this book might be less "girly" than the other vampire books out there today. I read Westerfeld's Uglies series and I liked them a little better. Westerfeld definitely used his inventive imagination on this book, but the relationships developed were somewhat shallow. Overall, the book was still worth reading.

  • Dubliners (Oxford World's Classics)

I gave this classic two stars, yet I wanted to really give it two and a half stars. Though I think Joyce can be a little dry and overly descriptive, I do have a certain love for the story, "The Dead." I just feel as if Joyce captures an essence of life in this short story that some more of the contemporary authors are missing. I'm reading a collection of short stories called, Shakespeare's Kitchen, that I'm having more trouble getting through than Dubliners. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I have an appreciate for Joyce's writing, but he's certainly not a page-turner for me!

I thought this was a great book, especially for new teachers. I only gave it three stars because I don't feel that it just justice to the author. She was a guest speaker at our school this month for our inservice to kick off the school year. She was very passionate, extremely funny and entertaining and the best guest speaker we've had....well, ever! Her book certainly helped remind me of the things I do right in the classroom as a teacher and gave me some helpful pointers and things I still need to work on.

  • Micah (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter: Book 13)
    • Rated 3 stars

This was a very interested book in the series in that it was shorter than the rest and had less depth to it. It almost felt as if Hamilton wanted to get a book out to her readers quickly, so she just focused on one event in Anita's life. It was great to learn more about Micah, but I still didn't feel as if I learned enough about him. I actually felt as if I knew more about Edward from the Obsidian Butterfly novel. A good read, but much too short!

I can't say that I've read a bad book in this series yet. Hamilton has some brilliant moments in which she's able to weave psychology, humor and adventure into Anita's life. There are very few predictable moments!

I know that Anita's life in these books seems to be getting crazy with all of her men, but what I'm forever amazed at is Hamilton's ability to tie together all of Anita's relationships and give them a special place in her books. I also love the sarcasm and that though Anita has a great amount of strength and courage and is presented as one tough chick, she also struggles with real emotional and psychological issues even in a fantasy world. Have I mentioned that I'm officially addicted to this series?

  • Breaking Dawn (The Twilight Saga, Book 4)

I am between 3 1/2 and 4 stars, but just because I loved the series as a whole, I gave it 4 stars. I agreed with Meyer giving Bella exactly what she wanted and that was to become a vampire and be with Edward for eternity, but I felt as if everything Meyer fit into this book was too much for one book. I felt as if she had the need to wrap up every detail in Bella, Jake and Edward's life, so things like Jake imprinting on their daughter just to have Jake continue to be a part of Bella's life seemed a little silly, and also that Charlie accepted Bella and didn't question her about her life. Though this wasn't the best book in the series, I thought that the series as a whole was very creative and well written and I enjoyed every bit of it!

  • Twelve Sharp: A Stephanie Plum Novel

I thought that this one was better than book 11. Evanovich added a little more mystery to this book with the Ranger look alike and his daughter. I also loved when both Morelli and Ranger moved in with Stephanie and they both found her on the fire escape. This book definitely had some great laugh out loud moments that revived the series and will motivate me to read #13!

I liked #10 better for some reason. I enjoy reading these books though some of it is a quite repetitive at this point. There are still a few laugh out loud moments or descriptions, so those are the things that keep me reading.
