I am a librarian on Long Island and I love to read. My Shelfari (mostly) includes books I have read and would recommend. I hope you enjoy them too.

Hi -- just noticed today that Roddy Doyle has a new book The Dead Republic, which is a sequel to A Star Called Henry. Just thought I'd let you know.

When I saw the book on your shelf about telling stores I was reminded of a quote I read years ago. An unknown urban child said, "If we didn't have stories, we'd all die of seriousness." Still love that!

Elizabeth-I finally read the ARC you gave me a while ago...My Most Excellent Year. I think that was the sweetest book I ever read. It was just a nice story. I kept waiting for something horrible to happen in order for there to be conflict, but I was happily surprised by the "Mary Poppins-ness" of it all. Thanks for the recommendation. Laura

I just finished reading a book called The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. It's a story narrated by the family dog, a lab mix named Enzo. It's a light, easy read but I laughed and cried so it was not without its impact.

I just started reading The Beach House this evening and devoured the first eight chapters before I had to pry myself away and do some housework. I have read almost all of Jane Green's books. There is one that I think I skipped out of the bunch. I really love the setting of this story and I wish I was there right now!

I see you are reading The Beach House. I am planning on reading it also as soon as I finish the book I'm reading now, so we'll have to compare notes! Have you read all of Jane Green's other books?

I am in awe of how quickly you read. It is taking me a month to get through my current three books. You'll have to tell me how Andre Dubus III's new book is. House of Sand and Fog blew my socks off but not sure I can stomach another tragedy-fest right now. Also, I can lend you Maira Kalman's Principles of Uncertainty... got it for my bday!

nope, can't read it - I just saw an ad for all four of her books, in matching pastel covers. Ew. Yes, I'm judging a book by its cover....

then you should love a movie if they ever make one, since they usually only focus on the beginning and end of a book!

Thanks-that's Melvin. I made him from clay and recycled parts. Unfortunately he fell apart recently, so I'm using his photo to remember him.
