Nooma shorts- yes, I think that is what they are called. Very well done!
I have not listened to the podcasts, but I will look into them. I am in need of something interesting to listen to on the drive back & forth from work.

My favorite is Everything is Spiritual. But I do use his short (video-vignettes) in therapy with my clients. I have about 20. (3-15 min.) pieces that hit upon difficult topics using a spiritual approach. They inspire a lot of thinking and interesting conversation. My son has traveled to his church near Grand Rapids, Michigan to hear his sermons.

... I think too the cat-purring GE on the humans in Oryx and Crake was brilliant. So says (purrs) Katrina my kitty in my lap just now... :-)

hi Lianne, thanks for the friends add....

I did see the film of Handmaid's Tale, well done - I must reallly read the book too, though I always find that hard to get to, if I've seen the movie first.

I follow Margaret Atwood and Neil Gaiman on Twitter, fun to follow the private and political lives of some of one's favourite authors.

    happy days,
    Jay

Lianne- thank you for your response. I have seen both the foreign (Let the Right One In) and american (Let Me IN) versions and liked them about equally. The American one didn't holltwood-it-up and kept the same classy and dark tone. Heart is a Lonely Hunter is slow but I still liked it. One scene stayed with me. The little girl walking out to the edge of town and laying in some bushes in the yard of some richer people with a good stereo system and windows open and she listens to her first experience with classical music. I saw a Kenneth Branagh thing on Shacklteon once and was fascinated. Along the lines of desperate arctic (not Antartic) travel I have to highly suggest the novel, The Terror, by Dan Simmons. I have to go to work (graveyard shift). -John

Lianne- excellent shelf. you rate some of my favorites high: The Time Traveler's Wife, World War Z (on a different subject matter but with the same epic/horror feel, I suggest The Descent ..not what the movie a few years ago was based on...by Jeff Long, Memoirs of Geisha, The Awakening, Remains of the Day and Never Let Me Go, House of Leaves (strangest book...ever), The Hours, To Kill a Mockingbird, Life of Pi and White Oleander. speaking of Janet Fitch...i don't see Paint it Black by her on your shelf. i rate it almost equal with White Oleander. I like looking at peoples Plan to Read shelf and nudging them in the direction of some of my favorites. here i go with yours- Watership Down, Enders Game, Three Incestuous Sisters, The Bell Jar and The Heart is a Lonely Hunter. I am reading Let The Right One In right now and liking it. since I see that you have excellent taste in books I am taking some of your favorites and putting them on my Plans shelf. thank you for listening. -John

Hi Lianne. Yeah, for Brief History ... , it was definitely your recommendation in the Nobel group that made me add it, and your pushing for Atwood probably had a part in that buy as well. Recently read David Mitchells "The Thousand Autumns Of Jacob De Zoet" by the way. Brilliant stuff - if you haven't read him you need to. Start with Cloud Atlas.

    take care

We can think happy thoughts. We can think positive thoughts. We can say, "Yes, I can do it!" We can think thoughts that make us feel joyous. We can learn to think only about all the good in the world. We can lift our thoughts up. We can greet the day with a smile. We can let the world know that we're happy to be alive. We can express gratitude at every turn. We can love our bodies. We can be our best friend. By our actions, we'll be an example for our children. Just by watching us, they'll learn how to create a happy and fulfilling life.

Our reward is that we get to watch day by day as our lives turn into the most joyous, loving, healthy, prosperous, fabulous experiences. And this will last for all the rest of our days on Earth. So train yourself to think thoughts that make you feel good. That way, you'll always be creating your life out of joy and in joy. Joy always brings more to be joyous about.

Affirm: I am the only thinker in my mind; and I choose to think joyous, happy, loving, positive thoughts 24/7. I love Life and Life loves me.

Hi Lianne. How are you? Read anything good lately? I read The Reliable Wife, and was disappointed. I never read AK after all. Got thru 1 chapter. I had a crazy Spring (work and family). I was only able to read a couple of light and fluffy books ! I will have more time to read this summer, and am looking forward to it ! Hope all is well with you...Marisa

Hi Lianne..thanks for the friend request. I just checked out your list. Yes, we do have many books in common. Except we have one thing very much not in common....You are a Margaret Atwood fan. I read 2 of her novels, and I could barely get through them. I gave up on her. Maybe you can get me to try a 3rd time. I have read The Handmaids Tale and the Blind Assasin. If I were to try her again, what would you suggest? I see you have The Thirteenth Tale on your TBR list. It is one of my all time favorites. I recommend it to everyone. Fantastic novel. I am starting A Reliable Wife next week. I see you were not crazy about it. I'll let you know what I think. And later this month, I am scheduled to start Anna Karenina with a Shelfari friend from Canada. We both have had AK collecting dust in our shelves, and decided to be brave and finally read it. I am not usually fond of Russian lit. I am more a British lit gal. But we'll see ! I look forward to chatting with you in the future ! Marisa
