  • The Time-Travelling Cat and the Aztec Sacrifice

A very good book that will encourage pre-teens to teens to learn more about history. History isn't boring, the teaching strategies are.

My first Jodi Picoult book. It's the best of all her books, in my opinion (I've read practically all, but four). More than the issues presented, it talks about sibling rivalry as well, and that I could relate to very much as most people with siblings do. Tearjerker. A Jodi Picoult Must Read.

  • Marley & Me
    • Rated 5 stars

Marley & Me will surely touch the hearts of people who get a hand on this book. It is not only for dog lovers, but all compassionate and emotional people. Reading it made me cry, and I'm sure a lot more readers have to. The author's dog experience with Marley was similar to mine, except I had a German Shepherd. When the final chapters came, I felt pain. I regretted not spending as much time as I could with my dog before she passed away.

  • No One Writes to Colonel

    by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

A difficult read for such a short piece of literature. It was a bit dragging. I finished it nonetheless. This was my first exposure to Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

  • M Is for Magic

This book is being marketed to young readers, however I disagree with the classification of such book. There are words/mental visuals and actions that young readers should not be exposed to. It was a very strange read, some of the stories I liked, and there were some I didn't really enjoy and/or clearly understand.

  • What Is God?

This book has beautiful art. I loved the manner in which the author compared the Supreme Being to the simple yet beautiful and awe inspiring things in life.

  • Rizal without the overcoat

An easy read. I learned more about my National Hero by reading the different articles Ambeth Ocampo wrote about Rizal. The book made Rizal seem more human. Instead of boring text books about the Philippine National hero, this should be the required book to read.

  • My Thirteenth Winter: A Memoir
    • Rated 5 stars

This book was a great discovery, if not for Samantha Abeel's memoir, I would not have completely understood myself. The realization that I was just like the author made me feel a little less hard on myself. I suffer the same learning disability as the author does. Dyscalculia is truly a lifelong battle. I'm better at some of the things that used to frustrate and put me to tears before, but after completing the book, It felt really good I wasn't suffering alone.
