  • I Saw the Welsh Revival: 1904-Centenary Edition-2004
    • Rated 5 stars

I loved this book. Great eye-witness account of the Welsh Revival.

Evan Robert’s remarks on revival (One of my favorite excerpts):
From a Welsh newspaper clipping printed sometime during the Welsh Revival (1904-1905)
    Pg. 126

“You desire an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in your city? You do well. But remember four conditions must be observed. They are essential.

“First, is there any sin in your past with which you have not honestly dealt with—not confessed to God? On your knees at once. Your past must be put away and cleansed.

“Second, is there anything in your life that is doubtful—anything you can not decide whether it is good or evil? Away with it. There must not be a trace of a cloud between you and God. Have you forgiven everybody?—everybody? If not, don’t expect forgiveness for your sins. Better offend ten thousand friends than grieve the Spirit of God—or quench him.

“Third, do what the Holy Spirit prompts without hesitation or fear. Obedience—prompt, implicit, unquestioning obedience, at whatever cost.

“Fourth, a public confession of Christ as personal Savior. Profession and confession are vastly different! Multitudes are guilty of long and loud profession. Confession of Christ as Lord is of recent date. We forget that there is a Trinity in the Godhead, and that the three Persons are on absolute equality. We praise the Father and we praise the Son. Can anyone produce a satisfactory reason why we should not, and do not, praise the Holy Spirit? When we speak of Him as a ‘thing,’ or ‘something,’ are we not greatly in error, since the Scriptures claim for Him absolute equality with the other sacred Persons in the Holy Trinity? Is He not ignored entirely in hundreds of the churches? Hear the word of the Lord, ‘Quench not the Spirit.’ That is the one way to revival. When the fire burns, it purifies. And when purified, you are fit to be used in the work of God.”

Victor Plymire was a wonderful man of God who was used to reach Tibet in the early 1900's. An amazing and inspiring missionary story of God's power and faithfulness.

  • The Story of Liberty
    • Rated 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book. The purpose of the book is "so you will comprehend what liberty cost, and what it is worth." A beautiful and poetic overview of the history of liberty from the signing of the Magna Carta in 1215 to the settling of the pilgrims in Plymouth in the early 1600's. I found this book's wording very entertaining when read aloud. Originally published in 1879, the wording is a bit old English, but not overwhelming by any means. I was blown away by the prices that have been paid throughout history for liberty.. Every American should read this book.

  • God's Generals: Why They Succeeded and Why Some Failed
    • Rated 5 stars

This book is a collection of the life stories of some of the greatest revivalists of the last century. Liardon focuses on pinpointing these leaders' strengths and weaknesses and portraying these by retelling their stories of success and failure. Loaded with amazing stories of God's kingdom coming to earth and also many stories of tragic failures. A great history lesson on revival over the last century and an invaluable resource which we can all learn from as we prepare for future moves of God's Spirit.

  • The Happy Intercessor
    • Rated 5 stars

Excellent book on intercessory prayer. Some good points I got out of it were Beni's points about always praying from God's perspective and not getting stuck in other perspectives.. Praying from heaven to earth.

Also, I enjoyed reading Beni's thoughts on mystics and mysticism. She contends that mystics do not have to lead isolated lives or be "cave dwellers," but can live normal lives while still being connected to God in a very close and unusual way.

  • One Yard Short: Turning Your Defeats into Victories
    • Rated 3 stars

Insightful picture of NFL coaching life. Inspiring story of God's faithfulness and direction as Coach Steckel committed his life and family to Jesus Christ. Coach Steckel was fired from coaching positions I believe 8 different times.. sometimes even after much success. He tells the stories of how God took him full circle through many different ways and circumstances to orchestrate something so beautiful that only God could design it.

  • God in My Corner: A Spiritual Memoir
    • Rated 5 stars

I loved this book! George shares about his supernatural encounter with Jesus in Puerto Rico after a boxing match in his dressing room! It's amazing. In a matter of moments, Jesus transformed him from an angry, bitter killer into a loving and tender man of God. I couldn't put it down. George shares a lot of stories from his life and the insights God's taught him through these many experiences in the sport of boxing, as a pastor, a father, and a business man. I thought it was pretty funny too!

  • Pursuing Open Heavens: Seeking God for Our Generations
    • Rated 4 stars

Really enjoyed this book. The parts that spoke to me in particular were where Dupont covers the Levitical Preisthood and how they were a model for New Testament believers as ministers and lovers of God. Cool stuff.

  • Purity
    • Rated 5 stars

...the best book I've read on the subject. This book will rally you to join the "the new moral revolution." Truly profound and loaded with grace. I'd recommend it to anyone regardless of where you're at in life.

The last chapter is entitled "Grace." It's about a girl named Grace who messed up and how God supernaturally restored her purity. Awesome book.
