¡Hola! Hello! I am a high-school Spanish teacher in Texas who loves, loves, loves to read and watch movies. I am married and have a 14 year old daughter who keeps me busier than my own life. I love mystery/adventure, historical fiction, cultural books, classics, non-genre fiction, Biblical fiction, and much more. I am kind of a mood reader. I am... more »

Okay, if you are looking for something highly literary, this isn't the right choice for you, but being that I can read fluff and more deep things, I enjoyed this for what it is. It was great for Christmas. I do like the Hannah Swensen series for those times I don't want to have to think about what I am reading. If you are looking for light and easy, this is it.

First of all, let's all not take ourselves too seriously. I read this book because I am a high school teacher and wanted to know what all my little girls were going gaga over. I was entertained and it made me feel young again. I can totally understand why teenage girls love this book. I remember having a crush on the impossible boy and this is the dream of him come true in a book. What is wrong with that. If you picked it up expecting to be challenged intellectually, you are an idiot. You should have known better and shame on you. Giving it a bad review for that reason is even worse. It is what it is. It was fun, and I am adult who can say she is glad she read it. It made Thanksgiving break fun, and gave my 15 year old daughter and I something to talk about.

If you are looking for a serious read, this isn't it, but it is light and fun. I keep a book or two going all the time, and this is just the thing to entertain, but not overwhelm my brain. I also like that it reads like a girlfriend talking to you about her day, and while she is fighting demons, it doesn't get dark and gloomy, but the explanation of how she got into this line of work is believable enough to keep reading.

Lots of fun and quick to read!

  • Practice Makes Perfect: Spanish Verb Tenses
    • Rated 5 stars

I am a high school Spanish teacher, so I am always on the look out for good resources in the classroom. The Practice Makes Perfect series are invaluable to me for three reasons:

    1. She gives fabulous explanations for the Spanish concepts she presents in each lesson and finds a way to connect it to the English you already know.
    2. She writes lists of related vocabulary terms and phrases that naturally fit within the context of the concepts she is presenting.
    3. The exercises she provides for practice are real world and in the context of how you might say them in conversation or in telling a story. I especially love the paragraph translations at the end of each lesson.

Great resource for the Spanish student or teacher! I even use them to freshen up my own Spanish.

Aggie is something. This is the first time I have ever read something by her and I am so impressed. What gets be the most is her ability to play with her words and phrases in such a way that there could be numerous interpretations. She does this and her readers ensnare themselves in their preconceptions of what is happening. Tricky lady you are, Aggie!!!

I loved this book because it is another that left me feeling like my best girlfriend was telling me her story. I could relate to all of what the main character felt and went through even though I may never have gone through it myself. There were times that were tear-jerking and others of laughing out loud. BUT, it is total chick-lit, so be advised.

I loved this book because I love books that tell a well known story from another perspective, but also because I love reading about this time period. Besides that, Mary is a much more sympathetic character than the rest of her family, especially her more famous sister. Gregory does a fabulous job of intermingling history, romance, drama, and tragedy into one. Don't let the movie dissuade you from reading this. The movie was a disappointment in comparison. I loved this!

No matter how many times I see this book, it makes me happy because it reminds me of my granddaddy. He would read it to my brother and I often, and then when my daughter was a little bitty girl, he read it to her, too. In fact, it is her one memory of him. If you read it to your children, make sure you put lots of drama and character voices into it. It will make the book unforgettable to them. I promise.

Yet another in my "movie books" series. I know that in part, when this book was made into a movie has much to do with any details left out of the movie, but more than anything, I just knew it would be even more frightening than the movie could be; and that was pretty dang scary. It was very good and worth the time I took to read it. It gives more insight to the different characters, and I think that enhances how scary it is in comparison to the movie. You will enjoy this book.
